The technology of EBR is based on the fundamental principles of electrochemistry, microbiology, and electrokinetics. When wastewater enters the chamber of EBR, it undergoes an electrochemical reaction. This reaction causes a voltage gradient across the chamber that drives the movement of the charged ions. These charged ions create an electric field, which promotes the transfer of electrons between the bacterial cells present in the wastewater. The bacteria remain active during this process and consume the organic and inorganic contaminants, present in the wastewater. As a result, the contaminants are degraded into simpler forms and eventually transformed into harmless by-products or released into the environment. 2, record 1, English, - electro%2Dbiochemical%20reactor

Space flight to the surface of Mars or other solar system bodies entails the possibility of carrying materials and organisms from the Earth to those destinations, and hence contaminating the planetary surface or atmosphere. This is termed "forward" contamination. The possibility that spacefaring crews landing on the surface of Mars or other bodies beyond the Moon may be exposed to harmful substances, possibly biological but more likely inorganic toxins, is called "backward" contamination. These two modes of introducing alien materials into a planetary environment are the focus of planetary protection concerns. 1, record 7, English, - backward%20contamination

What is biochemistry? Biochemistry explores chemical processes related to living organisms. It is a laboratory-based science combining biology and chemistry. Biochemists study the structure, composition, and chemical reactions of substances in living systems and, in turn, their functions and ways to control them. Biochemistry emerged as a separate discipline when scientists combined biology with organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. They began to study areas such as : how living things get energy from food; the chemical basis of heredity; what fundamental changes occur in disease. 2, record 12, English, - biochemist

What do inorganic chemists do? Inorganic chemists are employed in fields ranging from mining to microchips. Their work is based on understanding : The behavior and analogues for inorganic elements, and; How these materials can be modified, separated, and used. Specific work may include : Developing methods to recover metals from waste streams; Working as an analytical chemist in the analysis of mined ores; Performing research on the use of inorganic chemicals for treating soil. Many inorganic chemists work in industry, but they also work in academic institutions and government labs. Inorganic chemists who work in government say their time is increasingly spent writing grant proposals and competing for research money. 2, record 15, English, - inorganic%20chemist

biochemical oxygen demand; biological oxygen demand; BOD; B.O.D.: [These terms and abbreviations can also refer] to a chemical procedure for determining this amount. This is not a precise quantitative test, although it is widely used as an indication of the organic quality of water. The BOD value is most commonly expressed in milligrams of oxygen consumed per litre of sample during 5 days of incubation at 20 °C and is often used as a robust surrogate of the degree of organic pollution of water. ... BOD can be used as a gauge of the effectiveness of wastewater treatment plants. ... BOD is similar in function to chemical oxygen demand (COD), in that both measure the amount of organic compounds in water. However, COD is less specific, since it measures everything that can be chemically oxidized, rather than just levels of biologically active organic matter. 2, record 18, English, - biochemical%20oxygen%20demand

The ATP molecule consists of a nitrogen-containing organic base(adenine), a sugar(ribose) and a string of three phosphate groups.... In most of the reactions where ATP serves as an energy currency only the terminal phosphate group is involved. ATP is formed by attaching a third phosphate to adenosine diphosphate(ADP) with the elimination of water. The reaction does not proceed spontaneously; on the contrary, a substantial quantity of energy must be supplied. Much of that energy can then be recovered in the reverse reaction, in which ATP is split into ADP and inorganic phosphate. 4, record 60, English, - inorganic%20phosphate

7, record 85, French, - nanomat%C3%A9riau

Nanochemistry is a new discipline concerned with the unique properties associated with assemblies of atoms or molecules on a scale between that of the individual building blocks and the bulk material. ... Nanochemistry is the use of synthetic chemistry to make nanoscale building blocks of desired shape, size, composition and surface structure, charge and functionality with an optional target to control self-assembly of these building blocks at various scale-lengths. Nanochemistry uses semi-conductors that only conduct electricity in specific conductions.
