OBS

The trademark of a special type of coil-coated steel sheet with plastic and zinc dust coating, which is proving increasingly useful in automobile manufacture.

OBS

Another corrosion-resistant coated-steel product involving zinc is Zincrometal(Metal Coatings International), which is processed with a proprietary, two-coat system. The base coat is a chromium-base inorganic material called Dacromet. After the coating is baked, the coil is coated with a second material-Zincromet, an epoxy-based, zinc-rich topcoat-followed by another baking cycle.

Universal entry(ies)
DEF

A metallic element, symbol Cr, which does not occur in the free state, is remarkable for the brilliant colours of its compounds, has the atomic number 24, the atomic weight 51. 996, is part of the group VIB of the Periodic Table, and is used as an alloying and plating element on metal and plastic substrates for corrosion resistance, in chromium-containing and stainless steels, as a protective coating for automotive and equipment accessories, in nuclear and high-temperature research and as a constituent of inorganic pigments.

OBS

chromium metal: expression used by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Entrée(s) universelle(s)
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
CONT

Tin is a metal which can combine with other chemicals to form compounds. When tin is combined with chemicals such as chlorine, sulfur, or oxygen, it is called an inorganic tin compound. Inorganic tin compounds are found in small amounts in the earth’s crust. They are present in toothpaste, perfumes, soaps, coloring agents, and dyes. Tin can also combine with carbon-containing materials to form organotin compounds. These compounds are used in making plastics, food packages, plastic pipes, pesticides, paints, wood preservatives, and rodent (rats and mice) repellents. There can be tin metal, as well as inorganic and organic tin compounds in the air, water, and soil near places where they are naturally present in the rocks, mined, manufactured, or used.

CONT

Inorganic tin compounds are used as pigments in the ceramic and textile industry ... The low toxicity of tin and inorganic tin compounds is the result largely of its low absorption, low tissue accumulation, and rapid excretion, primarily in the faeces.

CONT

The air emissions from the hot end coating line consist predominately of particulate matter, hydrogen chloride, organic tins and inorganic tins.

CONT
