DEF

The detergent obtained by the formation of a sodium or potassium salt of a fatty acid or mixture of fatty acids.

OBS

An anionic surface active agent which exhibits the phenomenon of reversible hydrolysis by the action of water. Because of this fact, water soluble soaps, or "true soaps" exhibit characteristic properties. Their reaction is usually alkaline. [Text standardized by ISO.]

OBS

A salt(inorganic or organic), of a fatty acid, or mixture of fatty acids containing at least eight carbon atoms. In practice, the fatty acids may be replaced in part by rosin acids. In current usage, the term "metallic soap" applies to salts of fatty acids and non-alkali metals. These salts are practically insoluble in water and do not possess detergent properties.

OBS

soap: term standardized by ISO.

DEF

OBS

DEF

A chemical compound having the formula MgO which appears under the form of a noncombustible, white, alkaline powder, either light or heavy depending upon whether it is prepared by heating magnesium carbonate or the basic magnesium carbonate, is slightly soluble in water, soluble in acids and ammonium salt solutions, insoluble in alcohol, combines with water to form magnesium hydroxide, occurs naturally as the mineral periclase, is derived(1) by calcining magnesium carbonate or magnesium hydroxide,(2) by treating magnesium chloride with lime and heating or by heating it in air,(3) from seawater via the hydroxide, and is used as an inorganic rubber accelerator, a polycrystalline ceramic for aircraft windshields, in refractories, especially for steel furnace linings, for electrical insulation, in fertilizers, oxychloride and oxysulfate cements, paper manufacture, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, semiconductors, for the removal of sulfur dioxide from stack gases and as a feed additive and in the food industry(mainly for the deacidification of butter, cooa, and some canned or frozen foods).

OBS

Two forms are produced, one termed "Light," a fluffy material prepared by a relatively low-temperature dehydration of the hydroxide, the other termed "Heavy," a dense material made by high-temperature furnacing of the oxide after it has been formed from the carbonate or hydroxide.

OBS

Also known under a large number of commercial designations, among which: Akri-Mag; Anima; Granmag; Magchem 100; Magox; Magox 85; Marmag; Oxymag; seawater magnesia.

Organic nickel salts occur as crystalline powders or as flakes, which sink in water. ... The [main] use of nickel salts is as ... metal coating [agents]. This is because of [their] excellent resistance to corrosion, both in marine and industrial environments.

CONT

In order to introduce iron and nickel ions into the bath, any bath soluble iron or nickel containing compound may be employed provided that the corresponding ion is not detrimental to the bath. Preferably inorganic nickel salts are employed, such as nickel sulfate, nickel chloride and the like, as well as other nickel materials, such as nickel sulfamate.

ortho: A prefix meaning "straight ahead"; "meta" means "beyond"; "para" means "opposite". These prefixes are used in organic chemistry in naming disubstitution products derived from benzene in which the substituent atoms or radicals are located in certain definite positions on the benzene ring. This is illustrated in the diagram [not reproduced on this record], where A and B represent the substituent atoms or groups. When attached to adjoining carbon atoms, B is in the ortho position in respect to A (also called the 1,2-position). If B is located on the third carbon atom in respect to A, it is in the meta position (also called 1,3-); when B is attached to the opposite carbon atom, it is the para position (1,4).

OBS

The prefixes "ortho-", "meta-" and "para-", along with their corresponding abbreviations ("o-", "m-" and "p-"), appear in italics and are ignored in alphabetizing. According to the actual chemical nomenclature rules in organic chemistry (in 2003), the numbers designating the positions of the disubstitution groups (1,2- for "ortho-", 1,3- for "meta-" and 1,4- for "para-") are to be preferred to the symbols "o-", "m-" and "p-". Furthermore, the prefixes "ortho-", "meta-" and "para-" should not be used anymore, and their corresponding abbreviations ("o-", "m-", and "p-") will soon be judged to be avoided, if not totally condemned.

OBS

In inorganic chemistry the prefix ortho-designates the most highly hydrated acid, or its salt, to contrast with the meta-or less hydrated acid or salt.

Destroy the PCB using Powertech’s propriety sodium process. ... plants are capable of destroying PCBs to well below 2 ppm and produce [non-hazardous] hazardous effluents. Atmospheric emissions consist of nitrogen (sometimes containing traces of hydrogen), and carbon dioxide. Small amounts of neutral sludge, and inorganic sodium compounds are produced as harmless by-products.

CONT

It is imperative to understand the difference between organic and inorganic sodium. Organic sodium comes from the plant kingdom and is a free sodium, unattached to a chloride. Inorganic sodium(table salt) comes from rock and is extremely harmful to metabolic function. Sodium chloride(table salt), whether it be rock salt or sea salt, cannot be used by the body! It is extremely harmful and actually requires the use of organic sodium to protect the body from its effects.
