Différentiel actif. Piloté par l’électronique, ce type de différentiel envoie la puissance sur les roues disposant de la meilleure adhérence. DEF

[The] operation of an active device which is biased almost to output-current cut-off so that current flows only during one half of each cycle of sinusoidal input signal, i. e. the angle of flow is 180°.

OBS

[The class-B] mode of operation ... is very efficient because the mean current of the active device is directly proportional to the signal amplitude and is almost zero for zero input signal. The output signal is ... a reproduction of only one half of each cycle of input signal but linear amplification is possible by using two class-B stages in push-pull operation and most of the output stages in transistor amplifiers and receivers are of this type.

OBS

The theoretical efficiency of a class-B stage (measured by the ratio of the output power to the power taken from the supply) is 78% and efficiencies approaching this value can be obtained in practice.

CONT

DEF

[The] operation of an active device in which the bias and signal amplitude are so chosen that output current flows throughout each cycle of input signal(assumed sinusoidal), i. e. the angle of flow is 360°.

CONT

Class-A operation. Class-A amplifier operation is characterized by a conduction period of the output current (collector or drain) of 360°. That is, the operating point is chosen to have a constant voltage and current. In effect, the amplifier power is on all the time. This is referred to as linear operation. By operating in the linear region of the transistor’s characteristics, the amplified signal suffers minimum distortion. This comes at a price of inefficiency in the amplifier. The theoretical maximum possible efficiency of a class-A amplifier is 50%, but due to linearity requirements of the applications, the efficiency may be no more that 25%.

DEF

[The] operation of an active device which is biased beyond cut-off of output current so that current flows for less than one half-cycle of sinusoidal input signal, i. e. the angle of flow is less than 180°.

OBS

[The class-C] mode of operation ... cannot be used for linear amplification but is extensively used for RF amplification, e.g. in transmitters where a tuned output-load circuit rejects harmonics and gives a sinsoidal output signal. Efficiency (measured by the ratio of the output power to the power taken from the supply) can be very high indeed - approaching 90%.

CONT

A variation of the CVT [continuously variable transmission] is the IVT or toroidal transmission, where a pair of rollers rotate between an input and an output disc. Modifying the angle of the rollers changes the gear ratio. This transmission system is capable of handling higher torque while providing greater driving comfort and faster gear ratio changes. However, it is limited by disadvantages such as increased cost, installation space, and weight. However, Getrag is already working on IVTs for BMW.

V-bar : Flight Director Indicator... The V-bar command indicator is a pair of yellow, wedge-shaped V-bars that move up or down to command a climb or descent, and roll left or right to command a bank. The flight director system commands the V-bars to capture and track the selected heading or radio signals; or to maintain a desired pitch angle, glidepath, or an optimum speed during SC(speed command) operation. To satisfy the commands, the aircraft is maneuvered so that the airplane symbol is flown into the V-bars until the two are aligned. Input signals to the V-bars depend upon the mode of operation. The V-bars are biased from view by the instrument failure warning system; when loss of signal occurs, or sensing circuits fail that are associated with the selected mode of operation. They are also out of view when the mode selector control is in the OFF position.

The intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) and submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM) developed over the past 50 years have employed successive generations of increasingly accurate inertial guidance systems. The comparatively short time of guided flight and high acceleration levels characteristic of the ballistic missile application place a premium on accelerometer performance to achieve desired weapon system accuracy. To date, the accelerometer design of choice for strategic missiles has been the Pendulous Integrating Gyroscopic Accelerometer (PIGA) instrument, an accelerometer whose origins trace back to the German V2 rocket, and has been refined through several generations of development to achieve unsurpassed performance.
