DEF

A device that converts input power into a very narrow, intense beam of coherent visible or infrared radiation.

CONT

A laser is a maser which operates at optical frequencies. It is a device which produces an intense beam of visible or infrared coherent light by pumping atoms to ever higher energy levels and allowing them to oscillate in an optical resonator until the energy level is high enough that a constant stream of photons is emitted.

OBS

Some prefer the term "optical maser," in which the letter "m" stands for "molecular" instead of its originally assigned denotation of "microwave." While this viewpoint is logical, ... the word "laser" ... has the virtue of brevity and has won popular acceptance.

OBS

L.A.S.E.R [or LASER] is an acronym which stands for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation," a term which describes the fundamental operation of a laser.

DEF

DEF

A second order non-linear optical process … based on the annihilation of two input photons at frequencies [omega subscript 1] and [omega subscript 2] while, simultaneously, one photon at frequency [omega subscript 3] is generated.

CONT

Sum Frequency Generation Spectroscopy(SFG) is a technique used to analyze surfaces and interfaces. This spectroscopy method utilizes sum frequency generation, where two light beams mix at a surface and generate an output beam with a frequency equal to the sum of the two input frequencies. From the experiment setup and the output beam, one can deduce the composition, orientation distributions, and some structural information of molecules on a surface. SFG has advantages in its ability to be monolayer surface sensitive, ability to be performed in situ(for example aqueous surfaces and in gases), and not causing much damage to the sample surface.

OBS

In order that the sum-frequency generation takes place it is necessary that the following two conditions happen: 1. Energy conservation … 2. Momentum conservation …

DEF

DEF

A camera tube in which a charge image corresponding to the optical image input grows in magnitude on the target until neutralised by the scanning beam.

OBS

This occurs in all the camera tubes such as the iconoscope, image iconoscope, orthicon, image orthicon and vidicon which have been successfully used in television services. Storage occurs by virtue of the capacitance of the target and it brings about a considerable increase in the sensitivity of the tube. In fact it was not until the advantage of the storage principle was appreciated that tubes sensitive enough for use in television services became possible.

OBS

During writing, the pattern of photoelectrons generated at the photocathode by the input light is imaged onto the target as a halftone potential pattern generated by secondary electrons. Scanning of the target surface by the reading beam may be accomplished either during writing or as a later step. As in other vidicon tubes, capacitive discharge of the target to cathode potential in reading automatically erases the target and leaves it prepared for a new image.

A linear accelerometer with one or more proof masses constrained by one or more force sensitive beam resonators. The resultant change in oscillation frequency is a function of input acceleration. The resonators are often configured as differential pairs for common mode error rejection.

It will result in an increase in guidance reliability and accuracy, as well as a reduction in the weight of guidance systems.

... The smart antenna consists of an eight-element uniform linear array, eight transceiver trains and the adaptive antenna array processor(AAAP).... The AAAP performs four main tasks :(1) Direction-of-arrival(DOA) estimation from the received input data in the uplink with a high-resolution estimator.(2) A DOa identification classifies the DOAs and decides whether a wavefront(DOA) belongs to a user or to an interferer.(3) A tracker follows each nominal DOA(multipath component) of the user. The tracker does not only include averaging of the DOAs, but also measures the reliability of each multipath.(4) Signal reconstruction and beamforming, where a b beamforming algorithm forms an antenna pattern with a main beam steered into the direction of the strongest reliable user multipath, while simultaneously minimizing the influence of the interfering wavefronts.

OBS
