Energy spectroscopy. For energy analysis the output current pulse from a PMT [photomultiplier tube] or from a semiconductor detector is often applied to a charge-sensitive preamplifier. The preamplifier produces a voltage pulse with a peak amplitude that is proportional to the total charge in the current pulse, which is proportional to the energy absorbed from the incident radiation. Amplifiers and filters are used to expand the range of the peak amplitude and to shape the signal from the preamplifier, a process that maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio for the system. For energy analysis the peak amplitude of the shaped pulse represents the information of interest. Discriminators and single-channel analyzers(SCA) can be used, following the signal shaping system, to determine the presence of certain energies of detected radiation. A discriminator produces an output logic pulse if it's input signal exceeds a preset threshold level. An SCA produces an output logic pulse if the peak amplitude of it's input signal falls within the energy window that is established with two preset threshold levels. 1, record 14, English, - energy%20spectroscopy

Interruptible igniters, are small igniters applied to gas and oil burners to ignite the fuel input to the burner under prescribed light-off conditions. The igniter shall be cut off at the end of the time trial for ignition of the main burner. Interrupted-type igniters are typically sized to a minimum of 3% of the main burner at its light off rating, typically at 25% burner capacity. The use of interrupted igniters to support ignition or to extend the burner control range should be prohibited. 2, record 25, English, - interrupted%20igniter

Mechanical Atomizers : In the mechanical atomizer, the pressure of the fuel itself is used as the means for atomization. Mechanical atomizers are available in sizes up to 180 million Btu/hr input, about 10, 000 lb of oil per hr. The acceptable operating range may be as much as ten to one or as little as three to one, depending on the maximum oil pressure used for the system, the furnace configuration, air temperature, and burner throat velocity. Return flow atomizers are ideally suited for standard grades of fuel oil where it is desired to meet load variations without changing sprayer plates or cutting burners in and out of service. 4, record 26, English, - mechanical%20atomizer

Linear contrast enhancement... linearly expands the original digital values of the remotely sensed data into a new distribution. By expanding the original input values of the image, the total range of sensitivity of the display device can be utilized. Linear contrast enhancement also makes subtle variations within the data more obvious. These types of enhancements are best applied to remotely sensed images with Gaussian or near-Gaussian histograms, meaning, all the brightness values fall within a narrow range of the histogram and only one mode is apparent. There are three methods of linear contrast enhancement : Minimum-Maximam Linear Contrast Stretch [;] Percentage Linear Contrast Stretch [and] Piecewise Linear Contrast Stretch. 2, record 29, English, - linear%20contrast%20enhancement

On-farm experimentation is often described in terms of the amount of researcher and farmer involvement in the design and management of the trial. In many on-farm livestock experiments the farmer manages the trial, and we assume this here. The extent of the farmer's input to the design of the study and the types of measurements depend on the objectives of the study. The term applied to the phenomenon which occurs when an output signal is limited in some way by the full range of an amplifier, analog-to-digital converter(ADC) or other device. When this occurs, the signal is flattened a the peak values, the signal approaches the shape of a square wave, and high frequency components are introduced. Clipping may be hard, as is the case when the signal is strictly limited at some level; or it may be soft, in which case the clipping signal continues to follow the input at some reduced gain. 1, record 41, English, - clipping
