CVGs [Coriolis vibrating gyroscope] have three features in common : a mechanical resonator, an oscillator and a force-displacement sensor. One mode of the resonator is maintained in resonance by an oscillator loop while oscillations are induced in a second vibration mode. The amplitude of the oscillations gives a signal proportional to the input angular rate. A wide variety of resonators, actuation and sensing schemes are possible. The simplest resonator is a tuning fork. 2, record 2, English, - mechanical%20resonator

It should be emphasized that the modified Kusnetz method is only one of the several methods which may be used by uranium mining licensees in fulfilling the [Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC)] requirement of an acceptable method of measurement for radon daughter concentrations. ... The basic Kusnetz technique employed a count rate meter to measure the alpha emission rate from the sample, and had a practical detection limit of about 0.3 WL [working level]. The modified technique requires the use of a scaler in place of the count rate meter, and this results in a reduction of the practical detection limit to about 0.03 WL [working level]. 2, record 9, English, - counting%20ratemeter

The rudder actuator is a tandem actuator, having two internal piston areas for each hydraulic source(A & B). The actuator is capable of positioning the rudder panel with either one or both main hydraulic sources available, though with one source inoperative a reduced rudder panel deflection would result due to blowdown at higher airspeeds. Flow of hydraulic fluid to the rudder actuator is controlled by the dual servo-valve. This is a complex dual concentric cylinder with an outer and inner slide. During normal rudder pedal inputs sufficient rudder panel deflection is catered for by the primary(inner) valve alone. However, should a larger panel deflection be required or a higher rate rudder input be commanded, the secondary(outer) sleeve moves in addition to port extra fluid to the actuator. Movement of the outer sleeve is typically no more than 1 mm. Position of both sleeves of the servo valve is controlled by a complex mechanism of bell cranks, input rod and summing lever, the geometry of which is such as to provide movement of the sleeves in relation to the body of the valve. 2, record 10, English, - rudder%20actuator

Both mathematical models of the action of a chemostat and experimental studies show that a single-stage chemostat of practical size cannot yield a high concentration of a product and low concentrations of unconsumed raw materials. The gyros are used to maintain the platform's inertial orientation by sensing rotations of the platform caused by vehicle-rotation-induced friction at the gimbal pivot points... The second gyro is oriented so that one input axis lies along the platform's Z axis and the other lies in the X-Y plane.

13, record 34, French, - cardan

The force is applied to a micromachined cantilever (one electrode) and is sensed as a result of a tunneling current produced between the cantilever and a tunneling tip (the other electrode). The sensor is operated in a force rebalance mode such that the cantilever and tip do not actually move with respect to each other but are held in a servo-locked state with the voltage required to maintain the servo-lock proportional to the force being sensed by the cantilever. 2, record 48, English, - force%2Drebalance%20mode

Several different types of sensor devices have been designed, fabricated and demonstrated using this concept. These include extremely high dynamic range accelerometers, and high performance microgyroscopes that show the prospect of enabling very compact, inexpensive, precision inertial navigation and inertial measurement systems. 2, record 48, English, - force%2Drebalance%20mode

1, record 51, French, - indice%20de%20r%C3%A9fraction%20du%20milieu

Semiconductive Thin Film Detector. Using the known principle that the adsorption and desorption of gases cause a change in electrical conductivity of semiconductors, Seiyama et al. developed a new chromatographic detector for gaseous components.... The current, depending upon the resistance of the film, is converted to voltage by the variable resistance, which is fed without amplification to a recorder. Resistance also adjusts the input voltage of the recorder at desired sensitivity. Using zinc oxide as an example of a typical film material, the conductivity of its film maintains a fixed value when the nitrogen carrier gas is passed at a constant flow rate throught the borosilicate glass tube. When a small amount of another gas or vapor is added to the carrier gas, its conductivity is changed. 1, record 62, English, - semiconductive%20thin%20film%20detector

The representation of a general pulse transmission system is given in Figure 8. 1. Here, the information input to the system is encoded in some sense.... This encoded signal drives the modulator, which maps the pulse sequence into an analog wave suitable for transmission over the channel.... At the receiving end, the demodulator maps the received analog waveform into a pulse sequence that is a "best guess" of the sequence transmitted. The decoder operates on the binary sequence to extract the information originally impressed on the encoder. The overall objective is to transfer the information from the input to the output within some a priori specified low error rate, where the error rate is the average number of disagreements per unit of time between the inputs and the outputs. 1, record 66, English, - pulse%20transmission%20system

Degree of output distortion when the applied input signal is undistorted. Note 1-By inherent distortion is meant the combination of the different types of distortion caused by the channel(bias, characteristic, etc.). Note 2-This notion may be extended to the constituent elements of a channel, such as telegraphy relay. Note 3-It will be necessary to specify in what conditions the channel is used(type of apparatus, modulation rate, manual or automatic keying, etc.) and to effect the modulation under these conditions. In particular the point of entry at which the distortionless modulation is applied and the terminal point where the distortion is measured should be defined. 1, record 71, English, - degree%20of%20inherent%20distortion
