This insect infests flour, feeds, nuts, dried fruit, breakfast cereals, biscuits, and seeds, but rarely grains such as wheat and barley. At one time it was the most serious pest in flour mills. The larvae spin silken threads, matting food particles together, and clogging machinery to such an extent that mill operations can be seriously hindered. However, modern control measures have eliminated this pest from most mills. 2, record 2, English, - mediterranean%20flour%20moth
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 OBS
The adult has a wing-spread of about 2.5 centimetres. The forewings are pale grey with transverse black wavy lines. The female moth lays about 300 eggs. When fully grown, the larvae are about 1.2 centimetres long, whitish or pinkish in colour, with a dark brown head. The body hairs on the back arise from dark brown spots. When mature, the larvae spin cocoons in which they pupate. The cocoon may be formed in food, machinery, or on bare surfaces. The life cycle from egg to adult requires about eight or nine weeks under summer conditions. 2, record 2, English, - mediterranean%20flour%20moth

2, record 2, French, - pyrale%20m%C3%A9diterran%C3%A9enne%20de%20la%20farine
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 2, French, - pyrale%20m%C3%A9diterran%C3%A9enne%20de%20la%20farine

ESPECIE: Ephestia (Anagasta) kuehniella (Zeller).

2, record 3, French, - lutte%20microbienne

A hexapod robot is a mechanical vehicle that walks on six legs. Since a robot can be statically stable on three or more legs, a hexapod robot has a great deal of flexibility in how it can move. If legs become disabled, the robot may still be able to walk. Furthermore, not all of the robot's legs are needed for stability; other legs are free to reach new foot placements or manipulate a payload. Many hexapod robots are biologically inspired by Hexapoda locomotion. Hexapods may be used to test biological theories about insect locomotion, motor control, and neurology. 2, record 13, English, - hexapod%20robot

2, record 13, French, - robot%20hexapode

Black bug... The insect is common in rainfed and irrigated wetland environments during the vegetative stages of the rice crop. It prefers continuously cropped irrigated rice areas and poorly drained fields. Damages are observed more frequently in dry season rice crops and densely planted fields are preferred... One of the cultural control practices to reduce the population of the black bug is to maintain a clean field by removing the weeds and drying the rice field during plowing.... The term Attract & Kill(or Lure and Kill) is normally used for pheromone(or other attractant) based control methods that use an insecticide to kill the target pest. Mass Trapping, as the name implies, depends on the use of a mechanical device(insect trap) to remove the insect from the population. From a theoretical point of view, the approaches are very similar. The Centre for Aquatic Plant Management(CAPM) in the United Kingdom is promoting a method of controlling algae that involves the application of barley straw to lakes. As the straw decomposes in the lake, it releases a chemical which inhibits algal growth. This method may be a good alternative to using copper-containing compounds since it is not known to have toxic effects on rooted aquatic plants, zooplankton, insect larvae or fish. It appears to be a cost-effective and environmentally acceptable way to control algae in ponds and lakes. 2, record 22, English, - barley%20straw

The parasitic fungus Beauveria was the most novel practice, and the main form of biological control tested in the project. The fungus, which is native to the Andes but usually not found at population densities high enough to be an effective form of control, is mixed into the soil where potatoes are stored on the ground. The fungus attacks weevils when they emerge from the tubers to pupate in the ground. The fungus is easy to apply and is similar to the traditional use of ash to combat insect infestations in farmers’ stores. The effect of the parasitic fungus on the pest is highly visible; therefore, farmers were quick to comprehend the efficacy of this practice(Torres et al., 1993). 1, record 34, English, - parasitic%20fungus
