INSERTED FACE [10 records]

Record 1 2017-12-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Surgical Instruments
DEF

A tube inserted into the esophagus to maintain airway patency in unconscious persons for positive-pressure ventilation through the attached face mask.

OBS

An esophageal obturator airway [or] EOA is a semi-flexible large-bore tube approximately 30 cm in length, with 19 holes in the shaft and an inflatable cuff. A soft face mask is attached to one end and the other end is closed. The airway was designed for personnel who are not authorized to place endotracheal tubes. One of the distinct advantages is that it can be inserted blindly through the mouth without having to visualize the larynx. It is also helpful in the prevention of gastric regurgitation. The disadvantages are that the tracheo-bronchial tree cannot be adequately suctioned and there is the possibility of esophageal rupture when the cuff is inflated too fully.

Record 2 2017-10-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Paddle Sports
DEF

A stroke in which the gunwale or side of the canoe is used as a fulcrum and the paddle as a lever.

CONT

Another stroke which may be used by either the bow or stern paddler is the pry stroke. The paddle is inserted vertically in the water, with the power face outward, and the shaft braced against the gunwale. A gentle prying motion is applied, forcing the canoe in the opposite direction of the paddling side.

CONT

Since most hulls tends to veer - once the bow begins to turn, the stern slides out and forward, quickly pivoting the hull - the pry is best applied at the stern to offset veer and keep the hull aligned.

OBS

It is the opposite of a draw, moving the canoe away from the paddle.

  • Sports de pagaie
DEF
