Flipper: a can that normally appears flat; when brought down sharply on its end on a flat surface, one end flips out. When pressure is applied to this end, it flips in again and the can appears flat. Flippers result from a lack of vacuum. 2, record 1, English, - flipper
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Normally, the two ends of the food can should be flat indicating partial vacuum. If pressure develops inside, the ends bulge and the extent of bulging can lead to a flipper, a springer, a soft swell or a hard swell depending on the pressure inside the can. 3, record 1, English, - flipper

Automotive engineers could imagine, for instance, constructing an electrorheological clutch. The fluid inside this clutch would couple a car's engine to its drive shaft, which delivers power to the wheels. When solidified, the fluid would force the drive shaft to rotate. As it liquifies, the fluid would allow the engine to disengage from the drive shaft and spin freely, as if in neutral gear. Such a clutch would have few parts to wear or fail. And with a response time of a few milliseconds, it would make purely mechanical clutches look slow. It was also hoped that electrorheological fluids would lead to valveless hydraulic systems, in which solidifying fluid would shut off flow through a thin section of pipe. 1, record 10, English, - electrorheological%20clutch

1, record 10, French, - embrayage%20%C3%A9lectrorh%C3%A9ologique
