[The purpose of the] Farm Debt Mediation Service(FDMS) [is to] provide insolvent farmers and their creditors with mediation services to help them arrive at a mutually satisfactory arrangement. This service is... voluntary for both the producer and creditor(the farmer must apply to obtain the service) and in cases of unsuccessful mediation, the parties can still pursue other recourse to settle their debts including, but not limited to, the courts.
