The first CANPASS project underway was CANPASS-Highway. The CANPASS-Highway program will eventually be a national version of the PACE(Peace Arch Crossing Entry) project in B. C. which combines pre-approval processing, express lanes, a self-declaration card, and an automated billing system to speed up border crossings. Currently PACE users, for a $25 annual fee, receive a special windshield decal authenticity. Users deposit declaration cards in a box at the inspection booth before proceeding. Duties are charged to a credit card. Approximately 60, 000 vehicles use the PACE express lane to ensure that only approved travellers use it, and that those who do comply with the terms and conditions of the program. If users don’t comply, their privileges are withdrawn and appropriate penalties applied. Until now the CANPASS-Highway system for pre-approved travellers has been available only at four border crossings in British Columbia. However, down the road(so to speak) other suitable Canadian border crossing sites will have CANPASS-Highway capabilities. 2, record 6, English, - Peace%20Arch%20Crossing%20Entry

1, record 6, French, - Peace%20Arch%20Crossing%20Entry

While high speed train operation on tracks also carrying freight services can be shown to be safe, the potential for service interruption and the need for increased inspection and maintenance are factors which make this scenario inadvisable for extensive sections of route. 1, record 7, English, - carrying%20freight%20services

1, record 7, French, - trains%20de%20marchandises
