La Pastorale universitaire et collégiale catholique du Canada (la Pastorale) et l'Association canadienne des étudiantes et des étudiants catholiques (ACEC) ont grandi dans la collaboration grâce aux liens étroits qu'elles ont tissés. Elles forment une seule organisation – deux côtés d'une même médaille. Culture is everyone's right and belongs to us all. Our cultural heritage, from great works of the imagination to art and culture in their many shapes and forms, belongs to society as a whole. Everyone must have access to culture, to understand and share in it, so as to enrich and stimulate their own creativity. This principle inspired representatives of the culture and social economy community to found the Journées de la culture in 1996. Les Journées de la culture ont été instituées pour valoriser et renforcer les efforts de démocratisation de la culture au Québec.
