Mothballing is the process of stabilizing a facility so that no damage occurs to the facility should it make sense at a later time to incur the capital expenditures associated with continuing to operate, extending the life, or repowering the facility. Typically, a decision to mothball a facility might be made as a hedge against, or in anticipation of, changes in market conditions; i. e., increases in relative fuel prices, or an increase in the value of installed capacity.... Typical activities involved in mothballing a facility might include the following types of activities intended to preserve existing equipment :-’Racking Out’ or removal and storage of motor control center circuit breakers or 'switchgear’(this would also be done for a facility that has been retired and is scheduled for dismantling)-Placing a heat source or desiccants in the furnace to maintain a temperature above the dew point(at which condensation collects and corrodes the boiler structures.)-The application of grease or other coatings to reduce corrosion of components such as pumps and motors.-The installation of an air desiccant system to blow dry air through the steam turbine, condenser, boiler tubes and pipes. 2, record 8, English, - mothballing

The fire extinguishing equipment for an airliner such as the Douglas DC-10 incorporates three systems with six pressurized agent containers, two for each engine. The containers for the wing-mounted engines are located in pairs in the leading edge of the wing between the nacelle and the fuselage on each side of the aircraft.... The discharge cartridge is an electrically fired explosive unit that provides force to rupture the disk seal in the outlet port of the container and release the extinguishing agent to the deployment lines. One discharge cartridge is installed on each wing-mounted container and two are installed on the aft-engine container. The discharge cartridge contains two squibs(explosive charges) that are fired by an electric circuit that heats the powder to the ignition point. When the fire extinguisher control handle is pulled down, the electric circuit is closed and the squibs are fired. The force of the explosion ruptures the disk seal, thus releasing the extinguishing agent. A screen in the discharge head prevents particles of the disk from entering the deployment line. 2, record 32, English, - fire%20control%20handle

Gross navigational error(GNE)-Pilots are expected to fly their aircraft along the centerline of their assigned route and to stay within the accuracy limits of their installed navigation systems.(For example, the accuracy tolerance limits for Loran C equipment used in instrument flight rules(IFR) oceanic navigation is 5. 8 NM). If an aircraft becomes off course, it is usually for one of the following reasons; a "loop"(or communications) error between the pilot and the controller, a pilot intentionally entering a waypoint which is not along the assigned route of flight(for example, a pilot deviation due to weather without prior ATC approval or without declaring an emergency), an unintentionally entered waypoint not along the assigned route, and a navigational equipment error or failure. Navigational errors that are greater than 20 NM are investigated by the various countries that provide ATC service. 3, record 34, English, - gross%20navigational%20error

... the S-Band Antenna Subassembly(SASA) [will be moved from its] temporary stowage location on the starboard side of the Z1 truss to its new location on the top of the P6 array. Tanner will remove the power connections that provide maintenance power to the Z1 truss as he unbolts the SASA. Mike Bloomfield will maneuver the arm to Noriega's location tethered to the Integrated Equipment Assembly(IEA) where, in a series of "leap frog" like exchanges, Tanner and Noriega will alternate possession of the SASA until the antenna assembly is installed in its operating position on the IEA. Correction for Deviation by Swinging the Compass : The effect of deviation is neutralized in airplanes as far as possible by a procedure called "Swinging the Compass". The compass is fitted with corrector magnets, which are permanently installed and connected by gears. They are located in the top and bottom of the compass case and are adjusted by screws. As the compass is "swung", the screws are adjusted to eliminate deviation. It is rarely possible, however, to completely eliminate it. The deviation remaining after the compass has been "swung" is tabulated on a Compass Deviation Card to enable the pilot to make allowance for it.... The compass should be swung with the engine running and all radio and electrical equipment functioning. 4, record 63, English, - compass%20swinging

Environmental Control Systems Trainer. Additional training in the operation of the environmental control system was provided by the environmental control systems trainer which was a heavy shell mock-up with a prototype spacecraft environmental system. The device used was delivered to NASA in November 1960 and installed in a man-rated vacuum chamber at the U. S. Naval Air Crew Equipment Laboratory in Philadelphia(fig. 10-1(1)). During December of 1960 and January of 1961, the astronauts participated in a program of system familiarization that included being exposed to a simulated reentry heat pulse and approximately 2 hours of the expected postlanding temperature. During these runs, the astronauts wore the pressure suits and became familiar with function of the suits when associated with the environmental control system. However, since a provision had been made for simulating the suit function in the procedures trainer, this type of training was not considered essential This was particularly true since the astronauts received further first-hand familiarization to the environmental control system by participating in the preflight checkout of the spacecraft environmental control system at the launch site. 2, record 72, English, - man%2Drated%20vacuum%20chamber

Air release chambers are installed ahead of any metering equipment to ensure accurate measurement of fuel flow. They may be installed in either the pumphouse or on the dispensing platform. They operate on the reduced flow velocity principle which separates and eliminates air from the fuel. As the fuel enters the air release chamber(the diameter of which is much greater than the diameter of the inlet to the air release body), the velocity of the flow is greatly reduced allowing an interval of time for the air to separate from the fuel. The air, being lighter than the liquid, rises to the top of the chamber, where it remains until a sufficient quantity has accumulated to lower the liquid level, causing the float to drop, which in turn opens the vent valve and allows the accumulated air to escape. In most cases the line from the air vent is returned to the storage or scavenger tank to prevent spraying fuel into the surrounding area in case of a malfunction of the air release chamber. 1, record 84, English, - air%20release%20chamber

1, record 84, French, - chambre%20de%20d%C3%A9sa%C3%A9ration
