SEDS helps students develop their technical and leadership skills by providing opportunities to manage and participate in national projects as well as to attend conferences, publish their work, and develop their professional network, in order to help students become more effective in their present and future careers in industry, academia, government, and education.

OSPAR is the mechanism by which fifteen governments of the western coasts and catchments of Europe, together with the European Union, cooperate to protect the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic. It started in 1972 with the Oslo Convention against dumping. It was broadened to cover land-based sources and the offshore industry by the Paris Convention of 1974. These two conventions were unified, up-dated and extended by the 1992 OSPAR Convention.... The fifteen governments are Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germay, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom. Finland [is not included but was] historically... involved... Luxembourg and Switzerland are Contracting Parties due to their location within the catchments of the River Rhine.

OSPAR est le mécanisme par lequel quinze gouvernements des côtes et îles occidentales d’Europe, avec l'Union européenne, coopèrent pour protéger l’environnement marin de l’Atlantique du Nord-Est. Cette coopération a débuté en 1972 avec la Convention d’Oslo sur les immersions. Son champ a été étendu aux pollutions d’origine tellurique et à l’industrie pétrolière par la Convention de Paris en 1974. Enfin, ces deux conventions ont été unifiées, mises à jour et étendues par la Convention OSPAR en 1992. La nouvelle annexe sur la biodiversité et les écosystèmes a été adoptée en 1998 pour couvrir les activités humaines non-polluantes qui peuvent avoir un effet négatif sur la mer.

EUMETSAT is an intergovernmental organisation created through an international convention agreed by 17 European Member States : Austria, Belgium, Danemark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Luxembourg will soon become the 18th Member State. These States fund the EUMETSAT programmes and are the principal users of the systems. EUMETSAT also has four Cooperating States : Slovak Republic, Hungary, Poland and Croatia. EUMETSAT's primary objective is to establish, maintain and exploit European systems of operational meteorological satellites. EUMETSAT is responsible for the launch and operation of the satellites and for delivering satellite data to end-users as well as contributing to the operational monitoring of climate and the detection of global climate changes.
