OBS

Each TTCS receives commands, SAR control tables and other data from the MCF [Metadata Configuration file] and transmits them to the satellite; it receives telemetry data from the spacecraft and transmits them to the MCF; it also carries out tracking measurements on the satellite and transmits the results to the MCF. Additional TT&C stations(the external TT&C network) will be used for support during the Launch and Early Orbit Period(LEOP) and potentially during other parts of the mission.

CONT

Launch and early orbit phase. The launch phase involves a series of delicate operations not only for the... launcher, but also for the fully-assembled satellite... The launch phase... ends 18 minutes and 25 seconds after lift-off when the satellite separates from the launcher. The satellite, controlled by its onboard computer, then begins a series of automatic operations known as the "acquisition sequence". At the end of this sequence, the payload instruments are pointing earthward and the satellite's internal configuration is very close to that required for routine operations.

Electrical Integration is a vital part of Assembly, Integration & Testing(AIT) process of spacecraft, which plays its role from Layout Design till Launch. AIT is the process in which the satellite subsystems are integrated in a predetermined sequence, performance and interface checks carried out to arrive at a complete spacecraft in full configuration. At launch site, the spacecraft will go through different phases of assembly and testing as per pre-launch operation plan before being cleared for launch.

Subject field(s)
  • Launchers (Astronautics)
CONT

The Ariane 5 launch vehicle is composed of a lower composite and an upper composite. The lower composite is an assembly comprising two solid rocket motors and a main cryogenic stage, which basically functions like a traditional second stage. The lower composite is identical for all missions, whereas the configuration of the upper composite changes according to the assigned mission.

Domaine(s)
  • Lanceurs (Astronautique)
CONT

The Extendible Support Structure(ESS) deploys and supports the SAR antenna panels in its mission configuration. The ESS assembly consists of an Electronic Control Unit(ECU), a drive mechanism assembly, and two identical independently-deployable wing assemblies. Each wing includes a deployment mechanism, a truss structure supporting two SAR antenna panels, and a variety of sensors. The ESS subsystem also includes command and telemetry to control and monitor the ESS prior to and during deployment. During launch, the ESS is supported by the SAR antenna panels which are restrained against the Spacecraft Support Structure by Antenna Tie-Downs at six locations per wing. Deployment of the ESS is initiated by a ground command sometime after the release of the antenna tie-downs. Following deployment, the ESS is capable of supporting the SAR antenna panels such that the peak-to-peak deviation due to thermo-elastic distortion is not greater than 1. 1 mm over the entire antenna surface.

  • Types of Aircraft
CONT

The orbital aircraft has the capability to fly suborbital missions without propellant transfer, to distances of 3, 000 to 6, 000 nautical miles, depending on the aerodynamic configuration This capability exists because the airframe is capable of independent takeoff and landing. This offers a transcontinental range for a number of alternate missions that are difficult to imagine for an air launch concept. For the same reason, the tanker and orbital aircraft may be based at different locations, and interfaced only in flight. This offers more basing flexibility and removes the requirements for specialized facilities and ground support equipment such as that needed to mate the Shuttle orbiter to its carrier aircraft.
