LECLANCHE CELL [3 records]

Record 1 2017-08-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Dry Cells
DEF

An electric cell in which the electrolyte is in the form of paste rather than in a liquid.

OBS

The term dry cell is usually used to describe a Leclanché cell.

OBS

dry cell: term officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee (New Brunswick).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Piles sèches
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Storage Cells (Electr.)
  • Electrometallurgy
DEF

A kind of electric storage cell providing electric power through the action of an ammonium chloride electrolyte on electrodes of zinc and manganese dioxide.

OBS

sal ammoniac: A commercial term used in reference to the volatile white solid known otherwise as ammonium chloride.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Accumulateurs (Électricité)
  • Électrométallurgie
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Storage Cells (Electr.)
  • Photography
DEF

A primary electric cell which, apart from more conventional uses, has a variety of interesting applications such as power sources for hearing aids and heart pacemakers. It has the advantage over the dry Leclanché cell in that it does not deteriorate, provides a constant emf over a long period of time and has a higher energy density. It consists of zinc and mercuric oxide electrodes in contact with a hydroxide/zinc oxide electrolyte.

DEF

A primary dry cell that delivers an essentially constant output voltage throughout its useful life by means of a chemical reaction between zinc and mercury oxide widely used in hearing aids. Also known as mercury oxide cell.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Accumulateurs (Électricité)
  • Photographie
CONT
