Light boxes are often constructed with simplicity in mind. They usually feature a compact, enclosed space with translucent sides that diffuse the light produced by built-in LEDs [light-emitting diodes] or external light sources.... The notable benefit of using a light box is the even illumination it provides. The soft light distributed across the subject minimizes shadows and highlights, allowing for true-to-life colour representation and detail visibility. This consistency is especially advantageous for photographing small, intricate items like jewelry, electronics, or food, where clarity and detail are vital. 2, record 2, English, - light%20box

A quantum dot, also called a "qdot" or a "nanodot," is a semiconductor nanocrystal that is less or equal to 10 nm in size, and confines the motion of conduction band electrons in the three spatial directions. So, by definition, quantum dots are able to trap electrons. A given quantum dot contains a finite number of conduction band electrons typically in the range of 1 to 100. The energy levels of these electrons can be explained by using quantum physics, hence the name "quantum dots." 2, record 4, English, - quantum%20dot

6, record 4, Spanish, - punto%20cu%C3%A1ntico

It wasn’t until the 1980's when a new material, GaAlAs(gallium aluminum arsenide) was developed, that a rapid growth in the use of LEDs began to occur. GaAlAs technology provided superior performance over previously available LEDs. The brightness was over 10 times greater than standard LEDs due to increased efficiency and multi-layer, heterojunction type structures. The voltage required for operation was lower resulting in a total power savings. The LEDs could also be easily pulsed or multiplexed. This allowed their use in variable message and outdoor signs. LED were also designed into such application as bar code scanners, fiber optic data transmission systems, and medical equipment. Although this was a major breakthrough in LED Technology, there were still significant drawbacks to GaAlAs material. First, it was only available in a red 660nm wavelength. Second, the light output degradation of GaAlAs is greater than that of standard technology. 2, record 11, English, - gallium%20aluminum%20arsenide

Free-Space Optics (also known as FSO, Wireless Optics or Optical Wireless) is an optical data, voice and video transmission system. Like fiber optic cable, wireless optics communication systems use laser light to transmit a digital signal between two transceivers. However, unlike fiber, the laser like is transtmited through the air (free-space) instead of through a glass strand. In order for the digital signal to be transmitted and received, there must be clear line of site between each wireless optics unit. In other words, there should be no obstructions such as trees or buildings between the transceiver units. 1, record 15, English, - free%2Dspace%20optics
Record number: 15, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The technology is useful where the physical connection of the transmit and receive locations is difficult, for example in cities where the laying of fibre optic cables is expensive. Free Space Optics is also used to communicate between space-craft, since outside of the atmosphere there is little to distort the signal. The optical links usually use infrared laser light, although low-data-rate communication over short distances is possible using LEDs [Light Emitting Diode]. IrDA [Infrared Data Association] is a very simple form of free-space optical communications. Distances up to the order of 10 km are possible, but the distance and data rate of connection is highly dependent on atmospheric conditions. 7, record 15, English, - free%2Dspace%20optics

The term "solid state" refers to the fact that light in an LED is emitted from a solid object (a block of semiconductor) rather than from a vacuum or gas tube, as is the case in traditional incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent lamps. Unlike traditional lighting, however, SSL creates visible light with virtually no heat or parasitic energy dissipation. In addition, its solid-state nature provides for greater resistance to shock, vibration, and wear, thereby increasing its lifespan significantly. 3, record 16, English, - solid%2Dstate%20lighting

3, record 19, French, - enceinte%20perfectionn%C3%A9e%20de%20cristallisation%20des%20prot%C3%A9ines

A rival to LEDs in many applications, LCDs are particularly popular in the watch display market. The name of these devices describes their composition-LCDs have a liquid crystal material sandwiched between two glass plates separated by about 12 um. The glass plates are sealed around their perimeter. The image appears between two layers of conductive material, one etched on the surface of each glass plate. In operation, a voltage is applied between the two layers of conductive material which changes the molecular orientation of the liquid crystal material. The light passing through the display is thus scattered or reflected in nonequal manner where the voltage has been applied. LCDs emit no light, but can use either reflected or transmitted light to form the display. LCD's have the large advantage of consuming considerably less energy than LEDs. 1, record 20, English, - liquid%20crystal%20device
