Slope Orientation. The orientation of the slope to the wind and sun is critical. Leeward slopes(facing away from the prevailing wind) are rapidly loaded by heavy snowfall, even during periods of clear weather.... The slope's orientation to the sun is also important. South-facing slopes receive the greatest amount of incoming solar radiation and tend to stabilize more quickly, but they may also release as a wet slide when the sun warms them.

La tramontana, ou gregal, ou gregou (à ne pas confondre avec la tramontane) [est un] vent violent de Nord à Nord Est qui souffle sur le golfe de Gênes et le Nord de la Corse. Il doit habituellement sa naissance à un anticyclone (hautes pressions) centré sur l'Est de la France et une dépression (basses pressions) sur le Sud de Italie. La tramontana fait souvent suite au mistral et procure en été des brises propices à la navigation une fois la mer tombée.
