LEFT-LOOKING [6 records]

Record 1 2007-01-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Spacecraft
  • Remote Sensing
DEF

An imaging mode in which the viewing axis of a satellite is rotated from right to left.

CONT

About 75% of imaging will be performed in right-looking mode : the left-looking mode will be used for Antarctic mapping, emergency situations and to improve market access.

OBS

left-looking mode : term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group(RTAG).

Key term(s)
  • left looking mode

French

Domaine(s)
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
  • Engins spatiaux
  • Télédétection
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Remote Sensing
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Spacecraft
DEF

A remote sensing instrument whose viewing angle is rotated to the right.

OBS

Whereas RADARSAT-1 is a solely right-looking system, RADARSAT-2 will be outfitted with an antenna that can be steered electronically to acquire images to either the right or the left of the sub-satellite track... The switch from one look direction to the other is specified to take less than 10 minutes, that is, about one tenth of the time required to complete one full orbit. Although the look direction switching is an operational feature, the right-looking configuration is regarded as the default mode of operation. Hence, it is expected that about 75% of the imaging will be performed in this particular mode. The left-looking mode will be deployed on occasion; primarily to meet data requirements associated with Antarctic mapping and emergency situations(CSA, 2001).

OBS

right-looking sensor: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

Key term(s)
  • right looking sensor

  • Engins spatiaux
DEF

OBS

CONT

RADARSAT-2 will be able to switch from right-to left-looking mode. This process will take about 10 minutes. About 75% of imaging will be performed in right-looking : the left-looking mode will be used for Antarctic mapping, emergency situations and to improve market access. Several imaging modes are available with RADARSAT-2(incidence angles, resolution and polarization). A single image take may vary from a minimum of 5 seconds to a maximum of 28 minutes.

OBS

imaging mode: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

  • Géographie mathématique
CONT
