LEG PRESSURE [18 records]

Record 1 2017-06-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Symptoms (Medicine)
  • Musculoskeletal System
DEF

A test used to detect root tension in patients with back pain. As the straight leg raising test is performed and pain relieved by knee flexion, firm pressure is applied by the fingers into the popliteal space, which will reproduce the pain in a positive bowstring test.

OBS

Not to be confused with the "signe de la corde de l’arc".

French

Domaine(s)
  • Symptômes (Médecine)
  • Appareil locomoteur (Médecine)
DEF

CONT

Losee's test... is similar to the jerk test, in that the limb is moved from flexion to extension. If the left knee is being tested, the examiner stands to the left of the patient, grasps the foot with his left hand, flexes the knee to about 40° and uses his abdomen as a fulcrum to apply a valgus stress to the knee. With his right hand he increases the valgus pressure, placing the fingers on the patella and the thumb behind the fibular head..., while simultaneously pulling the upper tibia forward. On subsequent extension, during which the lower leg may rotate inward, a lateral snapping will occur between the femur and tibia at about 20° if there is an anterior cruciate insufficiency with anterolateral rotatory instability...

DEF

A test for the presence of sacroiliac joint disease.

OBS

With the subject supine, the operator places the lateral malleolus of the limb in question on the patella of the opposite leg. Downward pressure on the flexed knee will elicit pain if the condition is present.

OBS

The indication of a positive Patrick’s test is called "fabere sign." The word "fabere" is derived from the initial letters of the movements required to elicit the sign: flexion, abduction, external rotation, and extension.

OBS

"Faber" stands for flexion (F), abduction (AB), and external rotation (ER).

Subject field(s)
  • Ultrasonography

OBS

Segmental pressure analysis is essentially a blood pressure measurement taken at various different locations along the leg. This type of test is usually performed if there is claudication in the leg since this symptom is usually indicative of arterial narrowing. Segmental pressure analysis permits an in-depth analysis of wave form variation in order to determine the level of arterial obstruction. Reactive hyperemia or treadmill studies then show the extent of obstruction by indicating the time required for blood flow to resume to normal after cuff removal.

Custom ski leg with knee joints - a ski leg with two knee joints was designed for an above-knee skier. One knee joint was for walking, and the other for skiing. When the leg is used for skiing, the upper knee joint is locked and the lower knee joint is used - controlled by a compression spring - as it keeps the leg in the flexed position required for skiing. With the amputee’s weight on the coil spring, the ski knee can flex as the amputee goes down the hill but will not collapse and buckle. An adjustable ankle to permit the foot to flex to keep the ski parallel to the hill when going down the slopes was also incorporated.

CONT

Martin's ski leg is an ecto-skeletal unit designed to transmit all the energy from the leg into a conventional ski boot and to take advantage of the boot's engineering. The design has a hard block ankle and no energy storage so leaning into a turn allows pressure to be exerted on the inside or outside edge of the ski.

La jambe creuse rigide transfert solidement l’énergie sur la langue de la botte de ski. Le système pyramidal permet un alignement facile et l’adaptateur rotatif donnera l’angle horizontal légèrement fermé qu’exigent les skis.

Jogging created radicular pain by causing alternating pressure on the nerve roots. One patient experienced right leg pain when his body tilted to the right and left leg pain when his body tilted to the left.

... the Friehe-Grossman Method... depends upon the accurate calibration and operation of the thermoelectric dewpoint instrument on the aircraft. The method requires that each level leg be independently calibrated. The calibration coefficients are checked for altitude(pressure and/or temperature) dependence. In the case of both IFC-1 and-5 the calibration coefficients were averaged for all legs in the well-mixed layer for a given mission since little altitude dependence was noted for the slope of the calibration curve(which is important to the estimation of the moisture flux).

The driving of a narrow roadway results in the development of a pressure arch over the excavation. The strata within the arch bend slightly and cease to support the overlying beds, and the load is transferred to the solid coal or rock along the sides. The wider the roadway, the greater is the span of the arch and its height at the crown. A similar but larger pressure arch is formed across a longwall face, with one leg resting on the solid coal and the other on the solid pack behind the coal face.
