A bodybuilding exercise performed by completing the following movements : lie on your back, bend your knees and keep your feet flat on the floor. Place your hands loosely behind your head. Curl up using the standard crunch movement and bring your right elbow and shoulder across your body while raising your left knee to bring it toward your left shoulder at the same time. Reach with your elbow and try to touch your knee. Repeat with your other arm and leg.

This exercise mainly targets the straight and oblique abdominal muscles.

A variation of the straight leg raising test; with the patient sitting erect on the edge of the examining table, chin bent down on the chest, the examiner fixes the thigh to the table with one hand while extending the leg on the flexed thigh with the other. If sciatica is present, the pain will be reproduced before the examiner has completed the extension of the leg. To relieve the pain, the patient may attempt to extend his hip.

La manœuvre du tripode [...] réalisée en position assise est le pendant de l'élévation de la jambe tendue exécutée en décubitus dorsal. Alors que le malade est assis jambes pendantes, l'examinateur étend progressivement le genou jusqu'à provoquer une douleur. En réaction, le malade se jette vers l'arrière en s'appuyant sur les deux mains pour diminuer la tension sur le nerf sciatique. C'est cette position de triple appui qui a donné son nom au signe. La douleur peut également être exacerbée par la dorsiflexion de la cheville et la flexion antérieure du cou.

Double-leg raise test. This is a two-phase test :(1) The patient is placed supine, and a straight-leg-raising [SLR] test is performed on each limb : first on one side, and then on the other.(2) The SLR test is then performed on both limbs simultaneously; ie, a bilateral SLR test. If pain occurs at a lower angle when both legs are raised together than when performing the monolateral SLR maneuver, the test is considered positive for a lumbosacral area lesion.

A test done during [a] physical examination to determine whether a patient with low back pain has an underlying herniated disk, often located at L5 (fifth lumbar spinal nerve).

CONT

When performing the straight leg raise test the patient is positioned supine in the absence of pillows. The clinician lifts the patient’s symptomatic leg by the posterior ankle while keeping the knee in a fully extended position. The clinician continues to lift the patient’s leg by flexing at the hip until pain is illicited or end range is reached. Neurologic pain which is reproduced in the leg and low back between 30-70 degrees of hip flexion is a positive result of lumbar disc herniation at the L4-S1 nerve roots. In order to make this test more specific, the ankle can be dorsiflexed and the cervical spine flexed. This increases the stretching of the nerve root and dura.
