Les raisons d'un comportement suicidaire peuvent fortement diverger d'un individu à l'autre. Il peut être question d'une véritable volonté de mourir, d'un sentiment ou une conviction de ne plus (vouloir) pouvoir affronter la vie, d'un besoin d'échapper à une situation perçue comme insupportable pour la personne ou du fait d'arrêter de penser. Parfois, le comportement suicidaire est l'expression du besoin de rendre quelque chose clair pour les autres. Le comportement suicidaire peut aussi survenir impulsivement et sans grande réflexion préalable.

Le terme «comportement» fait référence tant aux actes qu'aux pensées. Il est possible de distinguer approximativement quatre phases : les pensées relatives au suicide, la planification du suicide, la préparation du suicide et son exécution.

The Japan Foundation was established in 1972 as a special legal entity under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the purpose of promoting mutual understanding and friendship on the international scene.
