The Attorney General of Canada provides legal advice to the heads of the Government departments. Further, the Attorney General carries out all litigation for or against the Crown or any department of the Government of Canada. Many federal statutes give the Attorney General additional powers and duties relating to prosecutions. The Court also distinguished between the legal right of redemption in foreclosure proceedings and a borrower's contractual right to reinstate a defaulted loan. By law, a defaulting borrower in foreclosure is entitled to redeem his or her property by paying the entire principal and interest due before confirmation of the sheriff's sale. When that happens, the lender has a legal duty to dismiss the foreclosure proceedings and may not condition that dismissal on payment of attorney fees. This differs from a contractual right to reinstate a loan. In that instance, the borrower typically pays only the amounts needed to make the loan current and continues all future payments on the previously agreed-upon schedule. 3, record 6, English, - legal%20right%20of%20redemption

He testified that these types of commercial, user-based filters are an "inadequate means of blocking bigotry" because they "shed too wide a net". For example, when America On-Line's(AOL' s) software tried to prevent people from accessing websites containing the word "breast", to thereby prevent visits to pornographic websites, it also blocked ones with information on breast cancer. 1, record 10, English, - user%2Dbased%20filter

One trained and licensed to prepare, manage, and either prosecute or defend a court action as an agent for another and who also gives advice on legal matters that may or may not require court action. Many of the terms listed above may be used interchangeably depending on the jurisdiction. These titles, and the rank and powers attributed to them, vary significantly from province to province and from state to state, thus necessitating a careful check of the pertinent jurisdiction's usage before choosing a term for a legal text. The following trends may be noted. "Lawyer" is a generic term. "Counsel", frequently used in Canada, may be a general term, or may refer more specifically to a lawyer who can plead in court. A "barrister" is a courtroom lawyer as opposed to a "solicitor" who is basically an office lawyer.(In Canada, both of these functions may be carried out by the same person). In some jurisdictions, "attorney" is used as a synonym of "lawyer", but in others, "attorney" becomes synonymous with "solicitor". Moreover, an "attorney-at-law" may sometimes plead in court. "Advocate" is the general word for a lawyer in Roman law jurisdictions(i. e. Quebec). 3, record 13, English, - lawyer
