A law clerk or a judicial clerk is a person who provides assistance to a judge or a licensed attorney in researching issues before the court and in writing opinions.

OBS

Unlike the court clerk and the courtroom deputy, both of whom are administrative staff for the court, a law clerk assists the judge in making legal determinations.

OBS

The staff in a judge's office, or chambers, are the judge's law clerks and the judicial assistant(or judicial secretary). These individuals assist with as many administrative and legal tasks as possible, leaving the judge more time for the aspects of judging that no one else can do.

A person, qualified through education, training, or work experience, who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, governmental agency, or other entity in a capacity or function which involves the performance, under the ultimate direction and supervision of an attorney, of specifically designated substantive legal work, which work, for the most part, requires a sufficient knowledge of legal concepts that, absent such assistant, the attorney would perform the task.

Le parajuriste est détenteur d'un diplôme universitaire en droit, non membre d'un barreau et il travaille sous la supervision d'un avocat en offrant des services juridiques dans les limites permises par la loi. En revanche, les autres techniciens sont des détenteurs d'un diplôme collégial, travaillant dans un cabinet ou une agence gouvernementale comme auxiliaires d'un avocat ou d'un notaire.

Graduates of established education programs for the legal assistant aid in the accomplishment, coordination and direction of law office practices and procedures under the authority of the legal practitioner.

These units provide on-site legal services to central agencies in their respective areas of activity. They manage critical horizontal legal, policy and operational issues related to the central agency functions of government.
