The Legend of the Dream Catcher tells us that the Native American Indians believe that the night air is filled with dreams, both good and bad. The dream catcher is woven of willow, antler, bones, feathers, sinew, bits or fur, leaves and other things of nature. The dream catcher, when hung above an infant's cradle or a place of rest, swinging freely with the breeze, catches the dreams as they enter the life of the dreamer. The good dreams know the way, slipping through the outer holes and sliding down the soft feathers so gently into the peaceful slumbering sleeper. The bad dreams, however, not knowing the way, would get tangled in the web, perishing with the first light of the new day. 3, record 17, English, - dream%20catcher

St. George is the patron saint of England. He is the patron of soldiers and archers, cavalry and chivalry, of farmers and field workers, Boy Scouts and butchers, of horses, riders and saddlers. He is also the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, Genoa Georgia, Germany, Greece, Istanbul, Lithuania, Moscow, Palestine, Portugal, and of Venice(second to St. Mark). According to legend, St. George, a soldier of the Imperial Army, rescues a town in what is now Libya from the tyranny of a people-eating dragon. St. George overpowered the beast and then offered to kill it if the townspeople would convert to Christianity and be baptized. The story is that there were 15, 000 conversions on the spot. Openly espousing Christianity was dangerous and eventually the authorities of Emperor Diocletian arrested George. He was martyred about 303 AD. 3, record 19, English, - St%2E%20George%26rsquo%3Bs%20Day

This famous wheat, commonly known as Red Fife or Scotch Fife in North America, is called "red" because that is its colour when fully ripe and "Fife" after David Fife, the Ontario farmer who was the first to grow it in North America when he sowed it on his farm in 1842. The story of how it got there has taken on aspects of myth and legend. It takes place at various locations across two continents : one often needs to look ahead in time, then back, to understand how it happened.(This section is based on Buller, Chapter III, sec. 23, p. 206-218). 2, record 24, English, - Red%20Fife%20Wheat

1, record 24, French, - bl%C3%A9%20Red%20Fife

The festival is named after Saint Walpurga(known in Scandinavia as "Valborg"; alternative forms are "Walpurgis", "Wealdburg", or "Valderburger"), born in Wessex in 710. She was a niece of Saint Boniface and, according to legend, a daughter to the Saxon prince St. Richard. Together with her brothers she travelled to Franconia, Germany, where she became a nun and lived in the convent of Heidenheim, which was founded by her brother Wunibald. Walpurga died on 25 February 779 and that day still carries her name in the Catholic calendar. However she was not made a saint until 1 May in the same year, and that day carries her name in the Swedish calendar. Historically the Walpurgisnacht is derived from Pagan spring customs, where the arrival of spring was celebrated with bonfires at night. Viking fertility celebrations took place around April 30 and due to Walpurga being declared a saint at that time of year, her name became associated with the celebrations. Walpurga was honored in the same way that Vikings had celebrated spring and as they spread throughout Europe, the two dates became mixed together and created the Walpurgis Night celebration. 1, record 36, English, - Walpurgis%20Night

2, record 36, French, - Nuit%20de%20Walpurgis

On November 11, Saint Martin's day, children in Flanders, the northern parts of the Netherlands, the Catholic areas of Germany and in Austria participate in paper lantern processions. Often, a man dressed as Saint Martin rides on a horse in front of the procession. The children sing songs about Saint Martin and about their lantern. The food traditionally eaten on the day is goose. According to legend, Martin was reluctant to become bishop, which is why he hid in a stable filled with geese. The noise made by the geese betrayed his location to the people who were looking for him. 1, record 41, French, - f%C3%AAte%20de%20la%20Saint%2DMartin

An airport located in Dorval, now a part of the city of Montréal, and used for private, local, national and international flights. The airport was first the "Dorval Airport," from the name of the city in the suburbs of Montréal, then the "Dorval International Airport," to become the airport for domestic flights, that is the flights limited to Canada, with the construction of the "Mirabel International Airport" inaugurated in 1975 and intended for international flights. But inadequate terrestrial links between Montréal and Mirabel contributed to give to the Montréal Dorval Airport ("Montréal-Dorval") its international status, leaving the charter (up to Autumn 2004) and cargo flights to the Mirabel Airport ("Montréal-Mirabel"); political decisions for these ends were accompanied by important subsidies for the building of added accommodations to what has become the "Montréal Dorval International Airport." With the amalgamation or merging of all the cities on the Île de Montréal, including the former cities of Montréal and of Dorval, to form the new city of Montréal on the 1 January 2002, the airport became the "Montréal Airport," a reality usage had already confirmed. On the 1 January 2004, the airport’s name changed to "Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport" to honour a former Prime Minister of Canada as do other important airports in the country. The official name will, no doubt, not be quoted at length all the time; the forms mentioned as correct on the present record will surely be used instead, including the recommendation of the airport authority as to the use of "Montréal-Trudeau" as the current short form ("fly from Montréal-Trudeau", or "land at the Montréal-Trudeau Airport"). Even if the airport encountered many name and status changes, it never had a name that includes a comma, and had always been represented by YUL, its IATA three-letter code. 3, record 45, English, - Montr%C3%A9al%20Pierre%20Elliott%20Trudeau%20International%20Airport

The Montréal Dorval International Airport has been officially renamed "Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport," written "Montréal - Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport" (a dash with a space before and after) in some governmental documents, during a ceremony held on September 9, 2003. The new name is effective starting January 1, 2004. Pierre Elliott Trudeau, of the Liberal Party, has been Prime Minister of Canada from April 20, 1968 to June 3, 1979, and from March 3, 1980 to June 29, 1984; he died in Montréal on September 28, 2000. 3, record 45, English, - Montr%C3%A9al%20Pierre%20Elliott%20Trudeau%20International%20Airport

In the legend, it is mentioned that the administrator, Aéroports de Montréal, recommends the use of "Montréal-Trudeau" as a current short form and that the code identifying the airport will remain YUL, the code of the International Air Transport Association(IATA) being international and the same in all languages. 3, record 45, English, - Montr%C3%A9al%20Pierre%20Elliott%20Trudeau%20International%20Airport

Durum wheat was grown even earlier in Eastern Canada than in Manitoba, under the name "goose wheat". According to legend, the original seed was taken from the gizzard of a wild goose that had been killed on its flight northward. Presumably, goose wheat was a mixture of several varieties introduced by Russian settlers. 1, record 50, English, - goose%20wheat

Most people assume that birds of paradise are named for the exquisite beauty of their elaborate feathers. In fact, they owe their lovely moniker to another legless legend. The natives of New Guinea prepared specimens for trade by cutting off the legs and drying the skin over a fire. The first specimens, supplied by Islamic traders, reached Europe in the sixteenth century and inspired an elaborate legend about ethereal birds that, according to a commentator in 1551, «lack feet and are therefore obliged to fly continuously and live in the highest sky... They require no other food or drink than dew from Heaven "-hence, birds of paradise. 3, record 63, English, - bird%20of%20paradise

There are many situations in which business owners may want to sell, transfer, or give away common stock. However, the possibility of future irritation from minority stockholders suggests that owners must protect themselves by issuing restricted letter stock rather than the stock certificate. Restricted letter stock is a legended stock certificate with a letter stating that the recipient has no intention of selling the shares or giving them away. A sample of the typical legend phrasing is provided. 3, record 68, English, - legended%20stock%20certificate
