In 1930, the Saskatchewan Treaty Protection Association was formed to protect the Treaty Rights of Indians in the Fort Qu'Appelle area. During the 1940's it became the Protective Association for Indians and their Treaties. In 1943, the Association of Indians of Saskatchewan became the largest organization in Saskatchewan. In 1946, a conference was convened by the Government of Saskatchewan at which 60 representatives of the Cree, Sioux, Saulteaux and Assiniboine Tribes of Saskatchewan discussed the feasibility of forming a single Indian organization. A resolution was passed favouring such establishment. Follow up meetings of Saskatchewan Indian leaders representing all Saskatchewan Bands were held at Duck Lake and Saskatoon. This resulted in the formation of the Union of Saskatchewan Indians. In 1957, a conference of Saskatchewan Chiefs and Councillors laid plans for a new organization. A second conference in 1958 resulted in the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians. By the late 1970's the swift pace of the political developments of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians(FSI) led to the drive for reorganization of the structure and Constitution of the Federation. On April 16, 1982, the Saskatchewan Chiefs agreed to form Canada's first Indian Legislative Assembly. The political convention they signed re-structured the FSI, so that the provincial governing body is no longer a non-profit society but a true federation of nations. Now known as the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, the Chiefs control the executive and administrative functions of government at the band, tribal council and provincial levels of Indian Government.

Since the Villers-Cotterêts Edict in 1539, the French language has officially been a component of national identity. Today, the Constitution(article 2) specifies that the language of the Republic is French, while remaining open to the use of other languages. La Délégation générale à la langue française et aux langues de France(DGLFLF) is a government department whose role is to guide national language policy at inter-ministerial level. Attached to the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the department's role is to examine, pilot and co-ordinate issues, and to track the application of legislative and statutory mechanisms(Law of 4th August 1994 on the use of the French language). It is supported by a network of partner organisations including the Senior Council for the French Language and the General Commission for Terminology and Neologisms.

The Palestine National Council, or PNC, is the legislative arm of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the supreme legislative institution for the Palestinian people. It meets roughly every two years as a parliament. The PLO and all other Palestinian organizations that claim a voice for Palestinians ostensibly operate under the umbrella of the Palestine National Council. The Council, whose structure and rules are set out in the Palestine National Covenant, was created by the Arab League in Cairo in 1964 but has since shed its subservience to the League.

The Iraqi Revolutionary Command Council was established after the military coup in 1968, and was the ultimate decision making body in Iraq before the 2003 American-led invasion. It exercised both executive and legislative authority in the country, with the Chairman and Vice Chairman chosen by a two-thirds majority of the council. A Duma is any of various representative assemblies in modern Russia and Russian history. The State Duma in the Russian Empire and Russian Federation corresponds to the lower house of the parliament. It is also the term for a council to early Russian rulers(Boyar Duma), as well as for city councils in Imperial Russia(Municipal dumas), and city and regional legislative bodies in the Russian Federation. The term comes from the Russian word(dumat), "to think" or "to consider". Boyar Duma was an advisory council to the grand princes and tsars of Muscovy. The Duma was discontinued by Peter the Great, who transferred its functions to the Governing Senate in 1721. However, the Duma would be re-introduced later in Russian history by Tsar Nicholas II, in the pre-Revolutionary period(1905), with the aid of his many advisors such as Pyotr Stolypin, amongst others.

La première Douma d'État de l'Empire russe fut convoquée le 27 avril 1906 (10 mai dans le calendrier grégorien) au Palais de Tauride à Saint-Pétersbourg par le tsar Nicolas II. Cette Douma fut instaurée à la suite des événements de 1905, et en particulier du dimanche rouge. Cette concession accordée par le pouvoir fait de la Russie une monarchie constitutionnelle mais non parlementaire, puisque le ministre, nommé par le Tsar, ne dépend pas de l'Assemblée.
