Cyclic vomiting syndrome is a condition that causes sudden episodes of severe nausea and vomiting. Episodes can last for hours or days and alternate with symptom-free periods that can last for several weeks to months. Episodes are similar, meaning that they tend to start at the same time of day, last the same length of time, and happen with the same symptoms and intensity. Cyclic vomiting syndrome happens in all age groups, but it often begins in children who are 3 to 7 years old.... Cyclic vomiting syndrome has no clear cause. 3, record 1, English, - cyclic%20vomiting%20syndrome

2, record 1, French, - syndrome%20des%20vomissements%20cycliques

The population status of Walleye of Tathlina Lake appears to have improved between 2001 and 2007. The mean size(length and weight) of Walleye and age of Walleye has increased, while the increase in catch-per-unit effort of and proportion of Walleye in the total catch suggests an increase in Walleye biomass in the lake. In order to model the progress of an epidemic in a large population, the population diversity must be reduced to a few key characteristics which are relevant to the infection under consideration. For example, for most common childhood diseases that confer long-lasting immunity, it makes sense to divide the population into those who are susceptible to the disease, those who are infected and those who have recovered and are immune. These subdivisions of the population are called compartments ... The SIR model labels these three compartments S = number susceptible, I =number infectious, and R =number recovered (immune). This is a good and simple model for many infectious diseases including measles, mumps and rubella. 4, record 16, English, - susceptible%2Dinfected%2Drecovered%20model

[The Kermack-McKendrick model] was proposed to explain the rapid rise and fall in the number of infected patients observed in epidemics such as the plague(London 1665-1666, Bombay 1906) and cholera(London 1865). It assumes that the population size is fixed(i. e., no births, deaths due to disease, or deaths by natural causes), incubation period of the infectious agent is instantaneous, and duration of infectivity is same as length of the disease. It also assumes a completely homogeneous population with no age, spatial, or social structure. 3, record 16, English, - susceptible%2Dinfected%2Drecovered%20model

Related to the concept of an "ultimate" limit to length of life is the idea of compression of mortality. This term is invoked(e. g., Fries, 1980) to describe a population in which the proportion of people surviving to advanced ages begins to approach what is assumed to be a biologically(presumably genetic) predetermined age limit to human survival. At this limit, the survival curve "rectangularizes", although a mathematically precise formulation of what constitutes rectangularization is not yet available. There are, however, a general set of order relations for different types of "survival curves" that we can use graphically to illustrate rectangularization. 1, record 19, English, - rectangularization

Tomato mosaic virus used to be common and widespread, but most modern cultivars are resistant. The virus exists in several strains that cause a variety of symptoms. Its common symptom is light to dark green mottling on the leaves, often accompanied by wilting of young leaves on sunny days when plants first become infected. The leaflets of affected leaves are usually distorted, puckered, and smaller than normal. The plant is reduced in size and becomes pale green and spindly... Disease symptoms are greatly influenced by temperature, day length, light intensity, age of plant, virus strain, and cultivar of tomato. Various strains of tomato mosaic virus cause winter necrosis, summer necrosis, or crusty-fruit diseases... 3, record 21, English, - tomato%20mosaic%20virus

2, record 21, French, - virus%20de%20la%20mosa%C3%AFque%20de%20la%20tomate

A few days later the axons arising from both eyes acquire a hairy appearance : they have short side branches along their entire length. The presence of side branches at this age implies that the inputs from both eyes mix with one another. In other words, the neural regions have yet to take on the adult structure, in which each eye has its own specific regions. 1, record 26, English, - side%20branch

1, record 26, French, - branche%20lat%C3%A9rale

Such a contribution schedule recognizes the employer's greater commitment to longer service employees. In addition, although greater length of service is not identical to higher attained age, it naturally tends to be correlated with higher attained age. 2, record 27, English, - attained%20age

Lee's phenomenon : Frequently, the larger fish in a year-class have different mortality rates than the smaller ones : either greater or less, but usually greater. This can be detected when back-calculations of length at earlier ages are made from scales or otoliths, using samples that are representative of the whole of each age group involved. When a larger fraction of the larger fish die, the result is "Rosa Lee's phenomenon"... 1, record 29, English, - Lee%26rsquo%3Bs%20phenomenon
