This insect, common in Great-Britain and Canada’s West Coast, is an omnivorous scavenger of cereal screenings, dust, etc. Occasionally it is a major pest of bulk wheat, bagged flour and a variety of stored commodities. In the home it is much more important as a clothes moth than as a pest of stored foods. 1, record 9, English, - brown%20house%20moth
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The adults vary in size with the male having a wing-spread of about 2 centimetres, while the female may at times exceed 2. 5 centimetres. The forewings are dark brown with a number of blackish-brown spots. Approximately 300 eggs are laid by each female, most of them within a few days of mating. Three times as many eggs are laid on sacking as on grain. The mature larva is about 2 centimetres in length, shiny white in colour, with a yellow head. The feeding larva spins a light, closely-woven tube of silk as it eats its way through a food mass. When temperatures are too low, many of the larvae become dormant rather than pupate, extending the larval stage. High relative humidity is a requirement for satisfactory larval growth. At summer temperatures and a relative humidity of approximately 90% the life cycle takes about 100 days. 1, record 9, English, - brown%20house%20moth

1, record 9, French, - %26oelig%3Bcophore%20bronz%C3%A9e

The adult is easily recognized by its conspicuous white head and thorax. The forewings are greyish-white with darker areas. The males have a wing-spread of about 1. 2 centimetres and the females about 2 centimetres. Most of the adults are females, each of which lays about 100 eggs. Like the brown house moth, the females vary in size and the larger females lay more eggs. The eggs, dull white in colour, are laid in cracks and crevices and often adhere together. The larva, which requires a relative humidity of at least 80% for development, is about 1. 2 centimetres in length and waxy-white in colour. The head and adjoining portion of the back of the adult are reddish-brown. 2, record 11, French, - cadelle

Tapeworms have neither mouth nor digestive tract... The proglottids are reproductive factories; each may house up to 40, 000 embryos.... A Soltau Model RVS 250-AS-STS microtunneling machine with a slurry spoil removal system was selected on a lease arrangement to install the 24-in. sewer line. A mixed face cutting head configuration was selected in anticipation of the varying ground conditions. The unit is supplied with high pressure water jets which have proven effective in boring through dense clays. The RVS 250-AS-STS involves two new innovations. First, it utilizes a state-of-the-art laser guidance system coupled with a completely digital operator control panel with continuous, up-to-date information on the tunneling process. There are three principal types of augers used for well drilling : bucket augers, solid-stem augers, and hollow-stem augers.... Solid-stem augers consist of spiral flanges welded to a pipe. The leading auger flight has a special bit or cutter head attached that cuts a hole for the flights to follow. Flights are added as the hole is drilled deeper. Cuttings from the drilling process are brought to the surface by the action of the augers.... Hollow-stem augers are similar to solid-stem augers in design, except that drill rods can pass through the auger sections.... Because the flights are hollow, they can be used as temporary casing to hold the hole open while the permanent casing is installed. Wells drilled with hollow-stem augers have been used to construct water supply wells, but they are more often used to construct monitoring wells. 3, record 29, English, - hollow%20stem%20auger

Rising to the trot means alternating rhythmically between full seat and half-seat(three-point and two-point).... The roof rat, typical of the climbing rats, is smaller and more slender than the Norway rat and has a longer tail. The adult is about 38 centimetres long and weighs, on average, 225 grams. The naked tail exceeds the length of the head and the body. Roof rats are nimble climbers that can negotiate rough outer walls, and small diameter pipes, electric wires, telephone cables, vines and trees. By such means they gain access to building in various places, such as unscreened windows, roof ventilators, and unused chimneys. Their litter size numbers about seven young and their gestation period parallels that of the Norway rat. 5, record 36, English, - black%20rat

The combination of oscillation and slope of the sieve causes the stock to travel slowly along its length. Air currents drawn from the underside of the sieve float the lighter branny particles to the surface of the layer of material on the sieve. Heavier particles of endosperm fall to the lowest strata of material and ride on the surface of the sieve until they reach the part of the sieve that has openings big enough for the particles to fall through. As the particles fall through, they are collected in a series of graded fractions. Thus, at the head end of the purifier, the purest most dense particles of endosperm pass first through the mesh as mixture travels along the sieve, the composite particles of endosperm with adhering bran are next to pass through the mesh, and finally the light coarse branny particles tail over the sieve into separation collecting spouts. 1, record 42, English, - collecting%20spouts

1, record 42, French, - collecteurs

Phalanger. Common name applied to marsupial mammals of the family Phalangeridae, found in Australia, Tasmania, the Solomon Islands, the Moluccas, and Celebes. Members of the family have been introduced into New Zealand. Head and body length ranges from 16 to 65 cm(6 to 26 in), tail length from 17 to 61 cm(7 to 24 in). All the members of the family have five toes on each foot; each digit, except for the opposable innermost toe of the hind foot, has a large claw. The [continuous extrusion blow-molding] process has three subcategories : the rising mold method, the rotary method, and the shuttle method.... In the shuttle method a blowing station is located on one or both sides of the extruder. As the parison reaches the proper length, the blow mold and clamp quickly shuttle to a point under the extrusion head, capture and cut the parison, and return to the blowing station. With dual sided machines, the clamps shuttle on an alternating basis. For increased production output, multiple extrusion heads are used. 2, record 52, English, - shuttle%20blow%20molding%20machine

1, record 61, French, - amortisseur%20de%20fin%20de%20course

The flooding type infiltrometers normally consist of tubes or concentric rings which are driven into the ground to depths of 15-21 in. These tubes are usually about 9 in. in diameter and 18-24 in. in length. Water is applied to the tube from graduated burettes and maintained at a constant head(...) over the soil surface. Readings of the water level in the burettes taken at successive time intervals permit direct determination of infiltration volumes and rates. 1, record 81, English, - flooding%20type%20infiltrometer

1, record 81, French, - infiltrom%C3%A8tre%20%C3%A0%20submersion
