Cadelle feed on many food materials: cereal grain and its products, oilseeds, cacao, spices, etc. Their presence is indicative of old, rotten grain around storage areas and poor sanitary conditions. 2, record 2, English, - cadelle
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Cadelles are one of the largest insects to infest grain. They are shiny black in colour, about 8 to 9 millimetres in length, and easily recognized by their large mandibles with which they can gnaw through sacking and even wood. The larva is also easy to recognize, with its black head and two black prongs on the last segment. The larva also has dark spots on top of the dorsal section. The cadelle has one of the longest life cycles of the beetles. The females lay about 900 eggs. At 28 degrees C and a relative humidity of 70 to 80%, it takes about 80 days from egg to adult. When the average temperature drops to 23 degrees C, the larval stage lasts 13 months. Under colder conditions the life cycle may take three years. 2, record 2, English, - cadelle

2, record 2, French, - cadelle
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 2, French, - cadelle

The tobacco moth feeds on a variety of stored products including almost all grains, many ground cereal products, tobacco, chocolate, spices, etc. This species is often associated with the Indian-meal moth, causing similar damage. The larvae differ in that on the tobacco moth the body hairs arise from the centre of small blackish-brown spots. These spots are absent on Indian-meal moth larvae. 2, record 3, English, - tobacco%20moth

The adult tobacco moth is a small, grey or brownish-grey moth with a wing-spread of about 1. 4 centimetres. The female lays about 200 eggs, either singly or in small groups. The larvae are dull creamy white and about 1. 2 centimetres in length when mature. The tobacco moth passes the winter as a larva, hibernating in a loose cocoon in cracks and crevices in buildings. Pupation occurs in late spring and the adults mate and lay eggs shortly after emergence. The webbing spun by the larvae is lighter than that of the Indian-meal moth. 2, record 3, English, - tobacco%20moth

The adult is easily recognized by its conspicuous white head and thorax. The forewings are greyish-white with darker areas. The males have a wing-spread of about 1. 2 centimetres and the females about 2 centimetres. Most of the adults are females, each of which lays about 100 eggs. Like the brown house moth, the females vary in size and the larger females lay more eggs. The eggs, dull white in colour, are laid in cracks and crevices and often adhere together. The larva, which requires a relative humidity of at least 80% for development, is about 1. 2 centimetres in length and waxy-white in colour. The head and adjoining portion of the back of the adult are reddish-brown. This moth has no dormant stage and under summer conditions and 90% relative humidity, the life of this species takes about 62 days. 1, record 4, English, - white%2Dshouldered%20house%20moth
