Le droit fil. Les tissus et étoffes tissés se composent de deux nappes de fils : les fils de chaîne (dans le sens de la longueur) et les fils de trame (dans le sens de la largeur). Ces nappes forment le droit fil du tissu. La chaîne, qu'on nomme aussi « droit fil de chaîne » ou simplement « droit fil », constitue le fond du tissu; les fils de trame, qu'on appelle aussi « droit fil de trame », viennent s'entrecroiser aux fils de chaîne.
