[A] refractive x-ray optics(lenses that transmit and focus x-rays over a particular energy range) offers an inexpensive and much simpler alternative. Our project investigates using refractive lenses to focus soft x-rays in the few kiloelectronvolt to few tens of kiloelectronvolt energy range. Because the x-ray refraction effect is quite weak in a single lens, a series of elements — a compound refractive lens(CRL) — focuses soft x-rays over practical focal lengths, typically 1 m to 2 m.

ED : Extra Low dispersion-usually refers to glass type. Glass with ED properties indicating special rare earth glass or special formulated glass limiting or correcting light rays passing through the lens elements to achieve all spectrum of colours to fall on the same plane of focus-especially the Red and Blue spectrum and is usually more apply to longer focal length lenses where the problem is more serious.

A telephoto is a long-focus lens incorporating some light diverging elements at the camera end. These have the effect of making the lens-image distance less than the focal length would otherwise require. The telephoto is therefore shorter than a lens of conventional design, although it has the same focal length. Both give images of identical size.
