CONT

Brightfield microscopy is the most elementary form of microscope illumination techniques... The name "brightfield" is derived from the fact that the specimen is dark and contrasted by the surrounding bright viewing field.... In brightfield microscopy a specimen is placed on the stage of the microscope and incandescent light from the microscope's light source is aimed at a lens beneath the specimen.... light passes through the specimen and then is collected by an objective lens situated in a turret above the stage.... This technique can be used to view fixed specimens or live cells. Since many organic specimens are transparent or opaque, staining is required to cause the contrast that allows them to be visible under the microscope.

CONT

DEF

A facsimile transmitter using a scan head composed of a stationary mirror surrounded by a rotating turret of lenses. The original is mounted on a moving semicylindrical platen that feeds the document as it is scanned one line at a time. While rotating, each lens focuses scan lines onto the mirror, which in turn projects the light through an aperture and onto a photocell.

DEF

A device that can be rotated to allow the user of a photographic or television camera his choice of two or more lenses of different focal length.

CONT

Lens Turret.-The lenses are bayonet-mounted on a spider turret, with diverging optical axes. The minimal focal length is 18 mm. The turret is rotated by hand, the taking lens being the one on the arm pointing down.
