A crash pad is a 3-4 inch foam landing mat that is placed on the ground under the climb. The purpose of this pad is to protect the climber in the event of falling. Placed under the climb, the crash pad, also known as a bouldering pad, is used to soften the landing in the event of a fall, cover any protruding rocks that could be extremely unpleasant to fall on, and they make great seats when they aren’t being used to potentially save your life. 3, record 3, English, - crash%20pad

Victims of neglect not more negative. In contrast, Buisman found that victims of neglect are not more negative with their offspring later in life. What she did discover was that the autonomous nervous system of these parents is more likely to be hyperreactive in a resting state and potentially stressful parenting situations. This was apparent from an increased heart rate and decreased heart rate variability. This could mean that the regulation of the autonomous nervous system is more likely to be disrupted in people who have experienced neglect in their childhood. Here too, Buisman found a link between being a victim and a perpetrator of neglect, but this appeared to be less strong than with abuse. 3, record 5, English, - perpetrator%20of%20neglect

Morbid obesity, also referred to as clinically severe obesity or extreme obesity, is a chronic disease that afflicts approximately 9 million adult Americans.... The morbidity and mortality risk from being overweight is proportional to its degree. Individuals with morbid obesity, therefore, have the highest risk for developing numerous illnesses that often reduce mobility and quality of life due to their excess weight. In particular, type 2 diabetes, gallbladder disease and osteoarthritis have been found to increase concurrently with higher BMI [body mass index]. Premature death, a 20-year shorter life span, has also been found in individuals with morbid obesity. All of the systems that make the body function are affected by morbid obesity. 10, record 13, English, - morbid%20obesity

The navel chakra can be found between the navel and the bottom of the rib cage. The parts of the body affected are the navel, small intestine, pancreas, gall bladder, digestive system, kidney and the liver. This chakra is in charge of a person's sense of self, where your self-esteem and will power come from. It is sometimes shown as meaning fire, and has aspects of powers that let a person "burn" out the pessimistic aspects of the past and achieve the power to rule and direct your life effectively. It can also help a person learn to meditate and cleanse their spirit from negative thoughts that sometimes cause us to take actions that we later regret. This chakra is a fire element and so it is related to feelings of being thirsty or hungry, or being tired. 4, record 17, English, - navel%20chakra

For the first month or so of life, the ruminant is functionally a monogastric. The forestomachs are formed, but are not yet fully developed. If milk is introduced into such a rumen, it basically rots rather than being fermented. To avoid this problem in such young ruminants, suckling causes a reflex closure of muscular folds that form a channel from the esophageal orifice toward the omasum(the esophageal groove), shunting milk away from the rumen and straight toward the stomach where it can be curdled by rennin and eventually digested enzymatically. 4, record 24, English, - reticular%20groove

Extinguishment. The term has, in the law, no fixed, uniform and universal meaning, but varies with the subject matter to which it is applied; but usually it connotes the end of a thing, precluding the existence of future life therein, and has been defined generally as meaning a complete wiping out, destruction, or annihilation, and not a mere suspension; the destruction or cancellation of a right, power, contract, or estate; a discharge by operation of law; a termination; and, more specifically, as the annihilation or extinction of a right by its being consolidated with a greater or more extensive right; the extinction of a charge or equity by its passing into the hands of the owner of the lands charged; and it has been sometimes used in the sense of payment.("Corpus Juris Secundum", Vol. 35, p. 352) 1, record 43, English, - extinguishment

World Animal Day is celebrated each year on 4 October. On this day, animal life in all its forms is celebrated, and special events are planned on locations all over the globe. 4 October was originally chosen for World Animal Day because it is the feast day of Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and patron saint of animals and the environment. Numerous churches throughout the world observe the Sunday closest to the 4th of October with a blessing for the animals. However, World Animal Day has now gone beyond being the celebration of a Christian saint and is today observed by animal-lovers of all beliefs, nationalities and backgrounds. Animal rescue shelters hold fundraising events and open days, wildlife groups organize information displays, schools undertake animal-related project work and individuals and groups of friends or co-workers donate to animal charities or pledge to sponsor a shelter animal. 1, record 57, English, - World%20Animal%20Day

The fluxes between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere are usually called surface fluxes. Many processes are involved such as evaporation from land and sea, warming and cooling of the earth, emission and deposition of gases and particles. These processes are vital to life and are being investigated in various scientific fields such as agriculture, bioclimatology, hydrology and meteorology. Surface fluxes traditionally are measured by instruments mounted on meteorological masts. Typical measurement data are wind speed, air temperature, air humidity and concentration of gases(eg CO2) and particles at several levels above ground. Calculation of surface fluxes are done by classical similarity-scaling equations on turbulent flow in the atmospheric boundary layer. This method applies only for large homogeneous landscapes(of the order of kilometers). 3, record 73, English, - surface%20flux

An International Development Research Centre(IRDC) Project. The frugal use of expensive water trucked in from distant wells was a way of life in the parched desert village of Chungungo, Chile — located in one of the driest parts of the world. In addition to being costly, the water was often contaminated, contributing to poor sanitation, ill health, and low food production. Today, a simple technology collects water from fog, supplying villagers with two or three times more water than they once used and at a lower cost. What makes this possible is the persistent, extensive cloud cover(camanchacas) along the coast of Chile, which creates continual fog as the prevailing winds move inland across the mountains. 1, record 77, English, - Tapping%20Into%20Fog

1, record 77, French, - Capteurs%20de%20brouillard

The initial MSRF concept is three Materials Science Research Racks(MSRR-1, MSRR-2, MSRR-3) which will developed for a phased deployment beginning on UF-3 in September, 2001. Concepts for the required Experiment Modules which satisfy the goals and objectives of the Materials Science program, are being developed. It is anticipated that the useful life of each rack will be from a minimum of five(5) to up to ten(10) years. The operational life of the Experiment Modules(EM) is planned for a minimum of five(5) years. The Ems will be designed to be serviceable and maintainable on orbit for their operational duration to satisfy the peer-selected scientific flight investigations. Flexibility is to be included in the design for ORU [Orbital Replaceable Unit] replacement of key components in order to extend useful life. The Experiment Modules for each rack will be designed to be "smart" furnaces with the avionics packages designed to support each investigation. The Experiment Modules for MSRR-2 and MSRR-3 will be designed with optimum flexibility to support on-orbit maintenance and change out of key components. 5, record 80, English, - second%20materials%20science%20research%20rack

British made Search And Rescue And Homing(SARAH) beacon SRI 23006 was a UHF rescue beacon comprising speech unit, transmitter/receiver unit, coding unit and combined LT/HT battery. The first three units are permanently interconnected. Attached to the transmitter/receiver unit is a leaf spring aerial which fold up to very small dimensions. The SARAH beacon has three modes of operation. In the normal beacon condition pulses on a frequency of 243 MHz are being automatically transmitted. The pulses are transmitted in a rate of 210 pairs per second, the spacing between the pulses in each pair is determined by the coding unit and is a distinguishing feature between the beacons.(Note that the normal beacon operation has much in common with the war-time developed "Walter" beacon). The peak power in this mode is 15 watts and the battery life is about 20 hours continuous operation. 1, record 85, English, - search%20and%20rescue%20and%20homing%20beacon

Employment Dynamics(ED), published by Statistics Canada, provides annual data on employment, payrolls and the number of businesses with employees at the national, provincial and territorial levels. The ED is produced annually, with the most current reference year being 1996. The data are presented by size and the life status of businesses at the 1-and 2-digit levels. The data source for the ED is Revenue Canada's T4 records and covers only businesses with paid employees. Although the ED has a two-year lag, it is a good source of data on job creation by firm size. 1, record 90, English, - Employment%20Dynamics

1, record 90, French, - Dynamique%20de%20l%27emploi

Under the attentat clause, it is not political offense to murder or to make an attempt at the life of the head of a state, or a member of his family, or sometimes, a member of the government. This is also called the Belgian clause, since it was first propounded in an enactment in Belgium in 1856,... The clause is found in many treaties and statutes. The scope of the clause has varied. For example, it has excluded from being considered political a crime involving an attempt upon the life of the head of a state and members of his family, or, in addition, upon the lives of the ministers of state, or, in further addition, upon the lives of vice-presidents, governors, and other state functionaries. 1, record 92, English, - attentat%20clause

Psychologist Mihaly Czikszentmihalyi(1990) has studied optimal or "autotelic" experiences-what he refers to as "flow experiences. "The word "autotelic' derives from two Greek words, ’auto’ meaning self, and ’telos’ meaning goal. It refers to a self-contained activity, one that is done not with the expectation of some future benefit, but simply because the doing itself is the reward, i. e., compelling mental focus. Czikszentmihalyi explains, "The autotelic experience, or flow, lifts the course of life to a different level. Alienation gives way to involvement, enjoyment replaces boredom, helplessness turns into a feeling of control, and psychic energy works to reinforce the sense of self, instead of being lost in the service of external goals". 1, record 95, English, - autotelic

A decreasing charge method in which the annual charge is a fraction of the depreciation base, the numerator of which is the number of years + 1 of the asset's remaining estimated life, the denominator being the sum of the series of numbers representing the years in the total estimated life. For an asset having an estimated life of five years, the denominator is the "sum-of-the-years’-digits"(of the asset's estimated life, i. e., 1+2+3+4+5=15), and the numerator for the first year is 5, for the second year 4, and so on. 6, record 96, English, - sum%2Dof%2Dthe%2Dyears%26rsquo%3B%2Ddigits%20method%20of%20depreciation
