Cryptocaryon irritans, a marine holotrichous ciliate, is a histophageous endoparasite of marine fishes. It exhibits a direct life cycle comprising four morphologically distinct developmental stages. It transforms between obligate, fish-associated trophonts and a free-living reproductive stage, the tomont, which produces tomites which differentiate into theronts, the infective stage of the parasite, which leave the ruptured cyst and actively seek out and infect a host. 2, record 1, English, - tomont

This insect, common in Great-Britain and Canada’s West Coast, is an omnivorous scavenger of cereal screenings, dust, etc. Occasionally it is a major pest of bulk wheat, bagged flour and a variety of stored commodities. In the home it is much more important as a clothes moth than as a pest of stored foods. 1, record 9, English, - brown%20house%20moth
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The adults vary in size with the male having a wing-spread of about 2 centimetres, while the female may at times exceed 2. 5 centimetres. The forewings are dark brown with a number of blackish-brown spots. Approximately 300 eggs are laid by each female, most of them within a few days of mating. Three times as many eggs are laid on sacking as on grain. The mature larva is about 2 centimetres in length, shiny white in colour, with a yellow head. The feeding larva spins a light, closely-woven tube of silk as it eats its way through a food mass. When temperatures are too low, many of the larvae become dormant rather than pupate, extending the larval stage. High relative humidity is a requirement for satisfactory larval growth. At summer temperatures and a relative humidity of approximately 90% the life cycle takes about 100 days. 1, record 9, English, - brown%20house%20moth

1, record 9, French, - %26oelig%3Bcophore%20bronz%C3%A9e
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 1 OBS
1, record 9, French, - %26oelig%3Bcophore%20bronz%C3%A9e

Cadelle feed on many food materials: cereal grain and its products, oilseeds, cacao, spices, etc. Their presence is indicative of old, rotten grain around storage areas and poor sanitary conditions. 2, record 10, English, - cadelle
Record number: 10, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Cadelles are one of the largest insects to infest grain. They are shiny black in colour, about 8 to 9 millimetres in length, and easily recognized by their large mandibles with which they can gnaw through sacking and even wood. The larva is also easy to recognize, with its black head and two black prongs on the last segment. The larva also has dark spots on top of the dorsal section. The cadelle has one of the longest life cycles of the beetles. The females lay about 900 eggs. At 28 degrees C and a relative humidity of 70 to 80%, it takes about 80 days from egg to adult. When the average temperature drops to 23 degrees C, the larval stage lasts 13 months. Under colder conditions the life cycle may take three years. 2, record 10, English, - cadelle

2, record 10, French, - cadelle
Record number: 10, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 10, French, - cadelle

The life cycle of SCN [soybean cyst nematode] has three major stages : egg, juvenile and adult. The cycle begins when eggs hatch to release worm-shaped juveniles in the soil. 2, record 12, French, - n%C3%A9matode%20du%20soja

The insecticidal nature of [Bacillus thuringiensis] is attributed to crystal-like proteins that are produced by Bt cells during the spore-forming stage of its life cycle. The crystal protein in Bt kills insects by binding to and disrupting the midgut(stomach) membranes. Susceptible insects will stop feeding within hours of ingesting Bt and will generally die within 2-5 days. The specificity of Bt lies in the fact that particular stomach enzymes(present only in certain insects) must activate the crystal proteins before they are considered toxic. Under normal conditions the crystal protein is insoluble(not active) and is therefore safe to humans, mammals and the majority of insects. 3, record 13, English, - insecticidal%20crystal%20protein
