[The association is] part of the Canadian Federation of Musicians and [its members] are professional musicians united through [the] locals so that: [they] can live and work in dignity, [their] work will be fulfilling and compensated fairly, [they] will have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect [them], [they] will have the opportunity to develop [their] talents and skills, [their] collective voice and power will be realized in a democratic and progressive union, [they] can oppose the forces of exploitation through [their] union solidarity. To achive these objectives [they] must commit to: treating each other with respect [regarding] ethnicity, creed, sex, age, disability, citizenship, sexual orientation, marital status, family status or national origin, honoring the standards and expectations [they] collectively set for [themselves] in pursuit of that vision, supporting and following the bylaws that [they] adopt for [themselves] and actively participating in the democratic institutions of [their] union.
