Subject field(s)

  • Public Administration
CONT

In Canada there is ongoing work to develop and implement a National Adaptation Strategy(NAS). It sets out a shared vision that includes transformational goals and tangible objectives to drive cohesive and collaborative action to help prepare Canada to adapt to climate change. It outlines a whole-of-society approach that includes roles for federal, provincial, territorial, Indigenous, and local governments, as well as the private sector, communities, and individuals.

Subject field(s)
  • Evolution (Biology)
CONT

Allopatric speciation results from geographic isolation between populations. In the absence of gene flow, reproductive isolation arises gradually and incidentally as a result of mutation, genetic drift and the indirect effects of natural selection driving local adaptation.

OBS

A physical barrier, for example, an ocean or a desert proves effective in reducing or eliminating gene exchange between populations and cause them to evolve or differentiate into new species.

Domaine(s)
  • Évolution (Biologie)
DEF

The CCI Program is managed by Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada(NSERC) in collaboration with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research(CIHR) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada(SSHRC). The objective of the College and Community Innovation(CCI) Program is to increase innovation at the community and/or regional level by enabling Canadian colleges to increase their capacity to work with local companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs). It will support applied research and collaborations that facilitate commercialization, as well as technology transfer, adaptation and adoption of new technologies.

CONT

Outbreeding is the mating of genetically divergent individuals, such as domesticated farm salmon and wild salmon. If the genetic differences are large enough, the result can be a reduction in fitness known as outbreeding depression. Outbreeding depression can be caused by either or both of two factors :(1) loss of local adaptation, and(2) breakdown of favorable combinations among gene loci. Outbreeding depression due to loss of local adaptation may occur in the first generation after hybridization.

CONT

A curriculum is quite clearly a plan. Even a local explanation can be considered a plan. A nontrivial explanation is a plan, a kind of mini-curriculum, for leading the student along a local learning path. A didactic operation can generate diagnostic expectations. AI research on planning distinguishes situations in which the actual effects of operation in an didactic episode can be accurately predicted from those in which they cannot, and in which the execution of a plan requires some monitoring (Charniak and Mc Dermott, 1986).

OBS

Strategies of knowledge communication must involve constant revision and adaptation and must interleave diagnosis with planned action. Diagnostic expectations that articulate goals and possible outcomes can be both local, monitoring the unfolding of the plan, and global, building up a long-term context and creating continuity throughout the tutorial session.
