A nanoshell is a type of spherical nanoparticle consisting of a dielectric core which is covered by a thin metallic shell (usually gold). 2, record 4, English, - nanoshell
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Gold nanoshells are shuttled into tumors by the use of phagocytosis where phagocytes engulf the nanoshells through the cell membrane to form an internal phagosome, or macrophage. After this it is shuttled into a cell and enzymes are usually used to metabolize it and shuttle it back out of the cell. These nanoshells are not metabolized so for them to be effective they just need to be within the tumor cells and photoinduced cell death is used to terminate the tumor cells. 2, record 4, English, - nanoshell

The Bcg/Ity/Lsh locus is a major gene controlling early phases of infection with intracellular parasites in mice. Natural resistance associated macrophage protein 1(Nramp1) has been shown to be the Bcg gene in mice. Analysis of a bovine cDNA homolog of murine Nramp1, designated as bovine NRAMP1, predicted a 548-amino-acid protein with hydrophobic domains, an amino-terminal SH3-binding domain, and a conserved consensus transport motif. Northern blotting indicated that bovine NRAMP1 was expressed primarily in macrophages and tissues of the recticuloendothelial system. 3, record 10, English, - natural%20resistance%20associated%20macrophage%20protein%201

Activation of macrophages by bacterial lipopolysaccharide(LPS) induces transcription of genes that encode for proinflammatory regulators of the immune response. Previous work has suggested that activation of the transcription factor activator protein 1(AP-1) is one LPS-induced event that mediates this response. Consistent with this notion, we found that LPS stimulated AP-1-mediated transcription of a transfected reporter gene in the murine macrophage cell line RAW 264. 7. As AP-1 activity is regulated in part by activation of the c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK), which phosphorylates and subsequently increases the transcriptional activity of c-Jun, we examined whether LPS treatment of macrophages resulted in activation of this kinase. 3, record 21, English, - jun%20N%2Dterminal%20kinase

PGN and sPGN also induced rapid and dose-dependent tyrosine phosphorylation of several cellular proteins, including lyn and mitogen-activated protein kinases(extracellular signal-regulated kinases; but not hck, fgr, or vav) and increased the activities of mitogen-activated protein and rsk kinases. 1, record 29, French, - activation%20des%20macrophages
