A device which has a life-safety application, and is activated by the fire alarm system, but is not part of the fire alarm system.

OBS

To further clarify, an ancillary device can provide either an input function(i. e. damper position indicator, exhaust fan "on" indication), or an output function(i. e. door holders, magnetic door release, elevator homing, pressurization fan activation), but cannot activate the fire alarm system.

An open circuit system is composed of magnetic detectors or contacts that are "normally closed. "That means that their contacts are separated when the door or window is in the normally closed position. When the door or window is opened, the contacts are released, causing them to close. This allows current to flow through the wires, and the alarm sounds. All the contacts and detectors are wired in parallel. This means that current flows ONLY when any contact or detector switch makes contact.

Ferrous Metal Detector Perimeter Alarm System. A ferrous metal detector system basically consists of a buried sensor cable, signal processor, power supply, and annunciator. The sensor cable is sensitive to changes in the earth's ambient magnetic field caused by ferrous metal being carried over the buried cables.
