Subject field(s)
  • Electronics
DEF

A magnetically ordered metallic film that can be deposited on a semiconductor chip or on almost any other material without need for a crystal substrate, for use in magnetic bubble memories.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Électronique
CONT

OBS

The typical bubble memory device is organized as a serial-in parallel loop serial-out shift register.

French

Domaine(s)

CONT

Record 9 2003-03-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Space Physics
CONT

The Sun emits a steady flow of electrically-charged particles called the solar wind. As the solar wind expands supersonically into space, it creates a magnetized bubble around the Sun--the heliosphere. Eventually, the solar wind runs into the electrically-charged particles and magnetic field in the interstellar gas. The solar wind abruptly slows down from supersonic to subsonic speed, creating a termination shock. Before both spacecraft travel beyond the heliopause into interstellar space, they must pass through that shockwave.

Subject field(s)
  • Electrical Measuring Equipment
  • Computer Memories
CONT

Magnetic bubble memory testers are used to examine bubble memory systems. Testers vary from unit to unit and in their ability to test memory devices of various capacities. Units can accommodate different memory architectures including serial, major/minor loop, block replicate, and even/odd configurations. They may offer capabilities for diagnostics testing(which isolates and defines design problems), device evaluation testing, and parallel functional testing. A computer may provide the central control and data collection functions for the magnetic bubble memory tester. The purpose of the loop status memory is to maintain a bit map of defective minor loops as they occur so that bubbles will be written into bad loops in later operations. This technique of maintaining minor loop status reduces test times.
