It has a temperature of approximately two million kelvins and an extremely low density. The corona continually varies in size and shape as it is affected by the Sun's magnetic field.... The corona shines only about half as brightly as the Moon and is normally not visible to the unaided eye, because its light is overwhelmed by the brilliance of the solar surface. During a total solar eclipse, however, the Moon blocks out the light from the photosphere, permitting naked-eye observations of the corona. 4, record 1, English, - solar%20corona

A feature of the equatorial ionosphere is the equatorial, or Appleton, anomaly. This anomaly consists of two maxima in electron density, located approximately 15° north and south of the magnetic equator. The daily equatorial anomaly generally begins to develop near 0900-1000 local time, and reaches its maximum development at 1400-1500(Huang and Cheng 1991). In periods of solar maximum, however, the anomaly may peak at "2100 local time, "and patches of plasma depletions(or "bubbles") form in this postsunset region. Small-scale irregularities form within these patches, becoming a source of intense scintillation effects. 2, record 9, English, - Appleton%20anomaly

The Earth is surrounded by a blanket of air, which we call the atmosphere. It reaches over 560 kilometers(348 miles) from the surface of the Earth, so we are only able to see what occurs fairly close to the ground.... Life on Earth is supported by the atmosphere, solar energy, and our planet's magnetic fields. The atmosphere absorbs the energy from the Sun, recycles water and other chemicals, and works with the electrical and magnetic forces to provide a moderate climate. The atmosphere also protects us from high-energy radiation and the frigid vacuum of space. The envelope of gas surrounding the Earth changes from the ground up. Four distinct layers have been identified using thermal characteristics(temperature changes), chemical composition, movement, and density [:] the troposphere..., the stratosphere..., the mesophere..., the thermosphere. The exosphere starts at the top to the thermosphere and continues until it merges with interplanetary gases, or space. In this region of the atmosphere, Hydrogen and Helium are the prime components and are only present at extremely low densities. 3, record 17, English, - Earth%26rsquo%3Bs%20atmosphere

Parametric Imaging Laboratory(CNRS-University of Paris VI) have opened up a completely new path for research using the potential of quantitative ultrasound imaging. They have developed the first "ultrasound osteodensitometer" with imaging. This is the most precise technique currently available for evaluating the acoustic properties of the bone. It can be used to establish an anatomical comparison of the acoustic properties obtained by ultrasound exploration, and other fundamental properties of bone strength, such as bone mineral density or bone microarchitecture, which are obtained through x-ray imaging or microimaging using nuclear magnetic resonance. 2, record 30, English, - ultrasound%20osteodensitometer

Instability which can arise when an electric current is fed through a plasma with a helical density distribution immersed in a magnetic field. This will give rise to screw-shaped ion and electron clouds which move in opposite directions along the field lines and produce a charge separation. This in turn generates transverse drift motions, electric fields and growing disturbances. 4, record 32, English, - screw%20instability

2, record 32, French, - instabilit%C3%A9%20en%20h%C3%A9lice
