Admiralty charts are nautical charts issued by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office and subject to Crown Copyright.... Large-scale charts often cover approaches and entrances to harbours, medium-scale charts cover heavily used coastal areas, and small-scale charts are for navigation in more open areas.... Charts use the Mercator projection so that bearings can be transferred to(or taken from) the charts directly, although allowances must be made for magnetic variation and magnetic deviation if accuracy is important.

An instrument which may display bearing and distance to a navigation aid, magnetic heading, track/course and track/course deviation.

A flight director is a highly sophisticated system that electronically collects the information provided by a number of instruments, feeds this information into a computer and presents it in two visual displays. The two instruments that provide this visual display are a horizontal situation indicator (HSI) and an attitude director indicator (ADI). Usually the flight director installation is combined with an autopilot system. The entire package is then known as a flight control system.

Different manufacturers give other names to the components of their systems. The HSI is sometimes called the "pictorial navigation indictor" (PNI) and the ADI is sometimes called the "flight command indicator."

The HSI, or Horizontal Navigation Indicator or Pictorial Navigation Indicator, is perhaps one of the most useful although misunderstood instruments around... it combines your directional gyro and Nav indicator into one instrument that reduces pilot workload by providing heading, course reference, course deviation and glide slope information all in one visual aid... You may also consider a slaved HSI. Slaving automatically compensates for gyro heading errors and keeps your HSI in agreement with your compass. It uses a magnetic flux sensor mounted in the wing or tail of your aircraft to sense changes in magnetic heading and sends corrective signals to your HSI.

Directional Compass... The compass displays the directional heading of the Gizmo in degrees, shown in both analog and digital format. The dial is accurate within 23 degree increments; the digital readout is accurate to smaller values.

Heading Hold (HH) or Heading Lock. A feature mode of some gyros that stands out by its property to hold the heading of a helicopter and resist the tendency to weathervane. Once trimmed, the tail needs very little input to hold a directional heading, even in high cross-wind conditions.
