CONT

Most prostate cancer cells depend on hormones to grow. Hormones such as gonadotropin releasing hormone(GnRH) or luteinizing hormone releasing hormone(LHRH) are released from the hypothalamus gland in the brain. When these hormones are released, they promote the testicles to produce the male hormone, testosterone. Androgen Deprivation Therapy(ADT) deprives prostate cancer cells of the male hormones(known as androgens) that cancer cells require in order to grow. ADT is the most common therapy used in men with advanced prostate cancer.

CONT

Corticotrophin-releasing factor(CRF) and other peptides of the corticoliberin superfamily inhibit development of edema in skin and mucosa after noxious stimuli. Here the breadth of CRFs protective activity on small blood vessels was examined after injury to skeletal muscle or to brain cortex. Male rats(243. +-. 15 g) were anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital 60 mg/kg i. p. and Monastral blue 60 mg/kg i. v. was injected 3 min before mechanical injury to muscle produced by a 4 cm midline surgical incision in the rectus abdominis or before freeze injury to the cortex produced by applying a cold probe(-50. degree. C) to the skull for 4 min.

CONT

The closest one could come to having a "little person" or an "inner eye" that perceives the brain's activity would be in the self-symbol-a complex subsystem that is a model of the full system. But the self-symbol does not perceive by having its own repertoire of smaller symbols(including its own self-symbol-an obvious invitation to infinite regress). Rather, the self-symbol' s joint activation with ordinary(nonreflexive) symbols constitutes the system's perception. Perception resides at the level of the full system, not at the level of the self-symbol. If you want to say that the self-symbol perceives something, it is only in the sense that a male moth perceives a female moth, or in the sense that your brain perceives your heart rate-at a level of microscopic intercellular chemical messages.
