MELT VISCOSITY [4 records]

Record 1 2010-04-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastic Materials
DEF

Continuous roving that has been aligned side by side in one direction and then impregnated with a thermosetting resin system to form a continuous sheet of material and of which the thickening has been obtained by curing to "B" stage and/or by evaporation of solvent.

CONT

The resin is applied from a melt or from solution and is of a suitable viscosity to hold the fibres in place. Uni-directional prepregs are supplied either in sheets or on spools, interleaved with non-contaminating carrier material, and are capable of being moulded or laminated under heat and pressure.

OBS

uni-directional prepreg; UD: term and abbreviation standardized by ISO.

DEF

DEF

An instrument for measuring the flow of viscous substances.

CONT

In the project rheological properties are measured on selected silicate melt compositions. New designed high temperature contraction flow equipment and existing fiber elongational equipment are used for measuring extensional viscosity. Shear viscosity is measured by rotational rheometer.

DEF

  • Synthetic Fabrics
  • Plastic Materials
CONT

The nature of the process is such that the molecular structure, molecular weight, and molecular weight distribution(all of which affect melt viscosity), orientation, and crystallizability of the injected plastic play an important role and must be considered for their effects on end product's properties.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
CONT

Unplasticized PVC presents some processing difficulties due to its high melt viscosity; in addition, the finished product is too brittle for some applications. To overcome these problems and to produce toughening, certain polymeric additives are usually added to the PVC. These materials, known as impact modifiers, are generally semicompatible and often somewhat rubbery in nature. Among the most important impact modifiers in use today are butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers(nitrile rubber), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) graft terpolymers, methacrylate-butadiene-styrene(MBS) terpolymers, chlorinated polyethylene, and some polyacrylates.

CONT

The advantage of the [stretch blow molding] process is an improvement in resin performance, such as bottle impact strength, cold strength, transparency, surface gloss, stiffness, and gas barrier, which permit lighter weight, lower cost bottles, use of lower cost resins with less impact modifiers, or products packaged that normally would not be suitable.

CONT
