The temperature at which [the] crystals [of a pure substance] are in equilibrium with the liquid phase at atmospheric pressure. 6, record 6, English, - melting%20point
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The melting point of a substance should be considered a property of its crystalline form only. At the melting point the liquid and solid forms of a substance exist in equilibrium. All substances of crystalline nature have their characteristic melting points. For very pure substances the temperature range over which the process of fusion occurs is very small. The melting point of a pure crystalline solid is a function of pressure; it increases with increasing pressure for most substances. However, in the case of ice(and a few other substances) the melting point decreases with increasing pressure... Under a pressure of one standard atmosphere, the melting point of pure ice is the same as the ice point, that is, 0°C. 7, record 6, English, - melting%20point
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The melting point is the temperature at which a solid material becomes liquid. The freezing point is the temperature at which liquid material becomes a solid. 8, record 6, English, - melting%20point

The term "melting point" (mp) is used when the equilibrium temperature is approached by heating the solid. Ordinarily refers to temperature above 0°C, the melting point of ice. 6, record 6, English, - melting%20point

X-ray welding of metal-matrix composites.... X-rays with energies in the range 3-200 keV have penetration lengths on the order of 0. 001-50 mm for various materials. Therefore, they have the potential for use as a volumetric heating source, provided a sufficiently intense source of x-rays is available. Until recently this was not possible. However, with the advent of third-generation synchrotron radiation sources, tunable x-rays with power densities greater than 104 W/cm2 in a 1-2 mm spot can be produced with the use of insertion devices. At such high power levels, localized melting and even vaporization can be induced in a number of materials. If these x-ray beams can be utilized in a controlled manner, they have the potential for use as welding sources for classes of materials that have eluded conventional welding approaches. 1, record 12, English, - X%2Dray%20welding

The temperature at which a brazing material starts to melt is known as the Solidus temperature. At the Liquidus temperature the brazing material is completely melted, and this is the minimum temperature at which brazing takes place. The difference between solidus and liquidus is known as the melting range and may be of importance in the selection of the brazing material, particularly as an indication of the rapidity with which the alloy will "freeze" after brazing. 1, record 14, English, - Solidus%20temperature

1, record 14, French, - temp%C3%A9rature%20dite%20%C2%ABSolidus%C2%BB

Thermally bonded non-woven geotextiles are produced by spraying continuous polymer filaments on to a moving belt which is then passed through heated rollers. These compress the layer of loose filaments and cause partial melting of the polymer filaments, leading to thermal bonding at the filament cross-over points. The random distribution of the filaments as they are sprayed on to the belt ensures that each of these non-woven geotextiles contains a wider range of opening sizes than is found in a woven geotextile. The absence of any preferred orientation of the filaments, such as the warp and weft directions present in woven geotextiles, also gives non-woven geotextiles a more isotropic strength. 1, record 15, English, - thermally%20bonded%20non%2Dwoven%20geotextile
