MICRO-SCALE [5 records]

Record 1 2011-06-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geomorphology and Geomorphogeny
DEF

A form of horizontal patterned ground whose mesh is tetragonal, pentagonal, or hexagonal. Its formation is favored by intensive frost action.

PHR

High-centered polygon, ice-wedge polygon, low-centered polygon, macro-scale polygon, micro-scale polygon, sand wedge polygon.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géomorphologie et géomorphogénie
DEF

PHR

Macropolygone, micropolygone, polygone à centre convexe, polygone à centre concave, polygone à coins de glace, polygone à coin de sable.

Record 2 2006-01-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Spacecraft
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
CONT

The formation consists of one large mother satellite and four small daughter satellites. Three of the four daughter satellites surround the mother satellite 3-dimensionally maintaining the mutual distance that ranges between several km and several thousand km(variable). The fourth daughter satellite stays near the mother satellite with the distance between several km and 100 km. By this configuration, we can obtain both the macro-scale and micro-scale information about the plasma disturbances at the same time. Highly resource-demanding high-time-resolution measurements are realized by concentrating available resources to the mother satellite.

Domaine(s)

  • Lancement et manœuvres dans l'espace
CONT

Record 4 2003-06-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Biotechnology
DEF

Operation in chemical engineering that involves transfer of material from one phase to another, or from one place to another within a single phase. Mass transfer may occur for various purposes, for example, to effect a chemical reaction, to obtain a separation of components, or to obtain uniform distribution of material within a phase.

CONT

Mixing in biological reactors is used to improve mass transfer and provide proper micro-scale and macro-scale shear rates for effective process results. Reactors may be mixed by impellers on rotating shafts, or may be of the flow contactor type such as packed columns, bubble columns or airlift circulators.

Domaine(s)
  • Biotechnologie
OBS
