Microbes dominate most global biogeochemical cycles, and microbial metagenomics(studying the collective microbial genomes) provides invaluable new insights into microbial systems, independent of cultivation. Metagenomic approaches targeting specific genes, e. g. small subunit(ssu) ribosomal RNA(rRNA), can be used to investigate microbial community organization by efficiently showing which taxa of organisms are present, while shotgun approaches show all genes and can indicate what functions the organisms are capable of. 2, record 2, English, - microbial%20metagenomics

2, record 2, French, - m%C3%A9tag%C3%A9nomique%20microbienne

Viruses, most of which infect microorganisms, are the most abundant biological entities on the planet. Identifying and measuring the community dynamics of viruses in the environment is complicated because less than one percent of microbial hosts have been cultivated. Also, there is no single gene that is common to all viral genomes, so total uncultured viral diversity cannot be monitored using approaches analogous to ribosomal DNA profiling. Metagenomic analyses of uncultured viral communities circumvent these limitations and can provide insights into the composition and structure of environmental viral communities. 2, record 5, English, - viral%20metagenomics

3, record 5, French, - m%C3%A9tag%C3%A9nomique%20des%20virus

The intestinal microbes are taxonomically complex and constitute an ecologically dynamic community(microbiota) that has long been believed to possess a strong impact on human physiology. Furthermore, they are heavily involved in the maturation and proliferation of human intestinal cells, helping to maintain their homeostasis and can be causative of various diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease and obesity... Through metagenomic analysis, it is now possible to comprehensively explore the genetic nature of the intestinal microbiome, the mutually interacting system comprising the host cells and the residing microbial community. 1, record 6, English, - human%20intestinal%20microbiome

1, record 7, Spanish, - placa%20dental
