Method for oil spill dispersion ... The problem of oil spills in a body of water has defied any simple solutions. Generally skimmers and other mechanical separators are used. Sometimes chemicals, such as surfactants, are used in an attempt to disperse the oil. In this event, the oil merely sinks to the bottom of the body of water to produce a film which causes damage to marine life. 1, record 1, English, - oil%20spill%20dispersion
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
One advantage of dispersion is that oil is broken up into tiny droplets with more surface area, which facilitates microbial degradation.... Dispersion can be enhanced by the addition of chemical dispersants... 4, record 1, English, - oil%20spill%20dispersion

Biopiles, also known as biocells, bioheaps [and] biomounds... are used to reduce concentrations of petroleum constituents in excavated soils through the use of biodegradation. This technology involves heaping contaminated soils into piles(or "cells") and stimulating aerobic microbial activity within the soils through the aeration and/or addition of minerals, nutrients, and moisture. The enhanced microbial activity results in degradation of adsorbed petroleum-product constituents through microbial respiration. 2, record 2, English, - biopile

3, record 3, French, - organismes%20fix%C3%A9s
