L'avalanche de neige humide survient lors d'un redoux hivernal ou au printemps. Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Hoarfrost [is] a deposit of interlocking ice crystals formed by direct sublimation on objects, usually those of small diameter freely exposed to the air, such as tree branches, plant stems and leaf edges, wires, and poles. Also, frost may form on the skin of an aircraft when a cold aircraft flies into warm and moist air or when it passes through air that is supersaturated with water vapor. Hoarfrost is formed similarly to the way dew is formed except that the temperature of the frosted object must be below freezing. Frost forms when air with a dew point below freezing is brought to saturation by cooling. In addition to its formation on freely exposed objects(air hoar), hoarfrost also forms inside unheated buildings and vehicles, in caves, in crevasses(crevasse hoar), on snow surfaces(surface hoar), and in air spaces within snow, especially below a snow crust(depth hoar). Hoarfrost is more fluffy and feathery than rime, which in turn is lighter than glaze. Hoarfrost is designated light or heavy(frost) depending upon the amount and uniformity of deposition. 6, record 7, English, - hoar%20frost
Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Hoarfrost [is] due to nocturnal radiation. Hoarfrost forms during still, clear nights, is small in amount, needlelike in texture, the "needles" approximately perpendicular to the objects on which they occur, and most abundant along the edges. 7, record 7, English, - hoar%20frost

Damp snow usually occurs when the temperature is around 0°C. Damp snow sticks to the road surface and is compacted by traffic. If there is a partial thaw, traffic creates ruts in the compacted snow. A snow roller is a rare meteorological phenomenon in which large snowballs are formed naturally as chunks of snow are blown along the ground by wind, picking up material along the way, in much the same way that the large snowballs used in snowmen are made. Unlike snowballs made by people, snow rollers are typically cylindrical in shape, and are often hollow since the inner layers, which are the first layers to form, are weak and thin compared to the outer layers and can easily be blown away, leaving what looks like a doughnut or jelly roll. Snow rollers have been seen to grow as large as two feet in diameter. ... snow rollers are more common in hilly areas. Small, shallow depression which forms mainly in winter over some high-latitude seas within a polar or arctic air mass. 5, record 12, English, - polar%20low
Record number: 12, Textual support number: 1 CONT
When arctic-origin air in winter flows southward(northward in the southern hemisphere) across(relatively) warmer seas, strong surface heating acts both to enhance the degree of instability, and trigger vigorous moist convective towers. This is sufficient alone to give rise to heavy, wintry showers/cumulonimbus clusters etc., but often marked troughing, or even a closed circulation in the isobaric flow is found; the resultant low-level convergence/positive vorticity enhancement, plus the localised concentration of the latent heat energy released, enhances development within the system, and an intense(but synoptically small) area of rain, hail, sleet or snow & squally winds can result-a polar low(or polar depression or polar meso-cyclone in some texts). 2, record 12, English, - polar%20low

What is a polar low? Part of a diverse group of mesoscale weather systems (polar meso-cyclones). ... [There is] three types of polar meso-cyclones: -jet streak type, -arctic front type, -cold low type. 6, record 12, English, - polar%20low

Polar mesocyclones: a term now used to encompass the whole ’family’ of disturbances resulting from arctic air flowing equatorward over progressively warmer seas; the term ’polar low’ is now often used only for ’extreme’ systems where gale or near gale-force winds are observed. 7, record 12, English, - polar%20low
