The results showed that railroads had the most market power over long, cross-country moves. However, there were exceptions. Unlike the grain freight market, for frozen freight, the length of haul was less of a determining factor behind truck and rail competition. Across all haul distances, rail demand for frozen products, on average, was more sensitive to changes in rail rates than frozen truck demand was to changes in truck rates. As a result, rail carriers are less likely to hold substantial market power in the frozen freight markets. For frozen freight, trucks compete with rail for shipments, even over long distances. This effect is likely due to frozen freight's time sensitivity and lower volumes(than grain). These requirements of frozen freight make it more suitable than grain for long-haul trucking. 1, record 2, English, - truck%20and%20rail%20competition

Several thread suppliers sell spools of monofilament thread, which is very fine and comes in either nylon or polyester. Many quilters prefer polyester monofilament thread because it doesn’t stretch as much as the nylon, and therefore isn’t as likely to tangle. In addition, nylon thread doesn’t do well in heat and it may discolor over time. Still, other quilters choose nylon [invisible] thread for its performance and say it looks the most like hand quilting. 4, record 3, English, - invisible%20thread

Recently developed techniques of organic synthesis and polymer chemistry [now permit] to synthesize catalysts having enzyme-like activities... sometimes called "synzymes"... It seems most likely... that enzyme mimics(analogues) will need a large complex structure,... as well as any portions of degraded or part-synthesized enzymes which one might hope would retain(or exhibit) particular catalytic ability. The hope derives from the finding that some complex enzymes display more than one catalytic ability, and have different domains with characteristic active sites with specificity for particular substrates and conversions.... Consideration of the development of "synzymes" leads immediately to the question of feasibility at reasonable cost in a reasonable time period. One obvious question is how faithfully must the structure of the enzyme active center be duplicated? 2, record 5, English, - synzyme

There is growing interest in synthetic catalysts that mimic enzymes. Bioorganic chemists study enzyme models with the hope that results of their investigations will aid in the understanding of enzyme mechanism. With the development of industrial catalysis to the point where improvement in selectivity is a central theme in research, many believe that abiotic catalysts constructed with enzymes in mind could be of value in the chemical process industry. 3, record 5, English, - synzyme

The movement by mechanical action or hydraulic flow of soil particles into the voids of a fabric and retention therein, thereby reducing the hydraulic conductivity of a geotextile. 2, record 14, English, - clogging
Record number: 14, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Clogging, blocking and blinding. If the geotextile pore openings are slightly too small, then there will be insufficient initial wash-through of fine soil particles to promote the rapid formation of an efficient graded filter in the adjacent soil. Where the geotextile pore openings are even smaller, then there is a serious risk that either blinding, severe blocking or severe clogging will develop with time. Blocking is where soil particles resting on the surface of the geotextile, either totally or partially obstruct the pore openings.... Blinding is a special form of severe blocking, where the soil grading permits the suffusion of fine soil particles which are too large to pass through the geotextile.... Where the size of many of the soil particles is very close to that of the geotextile pore openings, then they are likely to enter the pores and become trapped within the geotextile. This can cause severe clogging which is most likely to arise in thick non-woven geotextiles with a complex pore structure. 3, record 14, English, - clogging

1, record 14, French, - clogging
